Best oil for my Dodge

The Dodge 3500 with a V10 I bought last month came with 137,000 miles. Now is not the time to be looking for the best price on oil. What would be the best oil I can use in this high milege motor, any suggestions? Stan

I know this will start a war but I just use the tsc Traveller oil. My F250 diesel has 147,000 on it, my 99 Dodge dakota v6 has 148,000 and it gets walmart super tech oil&filter. Dosent matter what oil you ues, keep it changed every 3000 miles and you should be good to go. I also have a 89 chevy 3500 with 172,000, same thing walmart oil. I have bought 55 gal drums of oil called CAM 2. Its oil and it worked fine. Youll here it all on here.

I agree. As long as you change it regularly I don't think it makes much difference. My Lumina has over 240,000 miles and i've used no particular oil. Doesn't burn any oil and runs fine.

For extreme duty applications like ag or construction I think a high quality oil should be used.

Some of these folks think a gremlin hides in an oil can, just waiting to get inside their engine and destroy it.....they all look for magic in a can and like sheep, they are waiting for somebody to shepherd them in the right direction.

I"ll go so far as saying I think frequent oil changes are a waste of time and money. If the owners manual says go 7500 miles between changes.....do it. If it calls for 3,000, then do that if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

I run synthetic oil in my vehicles and change it once a year or 15,000 miles and that works fine for me. I don"t care what brand of oil it is either. Some major refinery makes it all and regardless of the label, all the oil sold by refinery X goes into whatever brand bottle they are filling. If Shell has the current contract with Walmart....then you get the same as goes in Shell bottles. They don"t have 29 different batches of product for every branded bottle they produce.

Everything here, gas or diesel except my F250 which calls for a 5w20 synthetic and my atv which gets 10w30 synthetic gets treated the same. From lawnmowers, to pickups, cars, tractors, bull dozers, etc. They all get 15w40 Conoco out of a 55 gallon drum with a little Lucas oil added. Of the major refiners oil, as long as it meets specs, I get whichever I get the best drum price for.

Hello 37,

The owners manual will tell you what weight oil you need to put in your engine for the conditions it is to be used.
You get that oil, with the proper weight any brand will do. just make sure it meets your enigne requirements.
Change it as recommended, and you're done.
If you go shyntetic, change the filter at 1/2 the oil drain interval. I go 1 year with shyntetic, change the filter the first 6 months.
Then change both the cranckase and the filter at 12 months.
Guido.

My brother in law is a fool who thinks he has to use Moble 1, and High octane Moble gas in his Toyota tundra. I believe its a 03-04. Well last fall he got a recall that the frame needed to be replaced, because it will rot out. So he threw away his money for high end products, and the frame still rots out. He could have used any brand oil, and the truck would be still be running. But you cant tell him. I know engines and frames are different, but why waste money for the same results, if that makes any sense. lol J

I use 40 wt in my ford. I use the store brand. No reason to put ear rings on a pig. My tractors are a different story. I use 15-40 diesel oil. Stan

Both Walmart Super tech and Travellers are good oils, so are MAG1 oils. I am very familiar with them. Any oil with the API doughnut symbol on the back label and/or the API spur on the front is good oil.
