That's sure a lot more of a complicated rig than just "calling them up" on an old crank telephone.

Supposedly, gives them info on spawning, number, size and condition of fish. They been doing it for 50yrs.Lotta people think its a waste of time and money. Most people are there just for traditional reasons.

My sister is moving out of Naples to shorten her commute to work in Rochester. I'll miss the excuse on the holidays to run down that way. Very scenic area. Rtes 245 and 21 were part of my route to and from Alfred, NY when I was in college. Short cut through Cohocton and Loon Lake as well as the Almond reserve. I think the road by the reserve (was seasonal) is closed for through traffic from Hornell to Almond now.

Great pictures. The D.N.R (da- near russia)shocked our lake several years ago for Northern pike. Got a big one out (looked to be about 27") measured it and weighed it taged it and returned it to the lake. One Kid asked if he could have it, and the awnser was SURE KID,ALL YA GOTTA DO IS CATCH IT.General additude fron "DO NOTHING RIGHT" I'll bet the kids parents felt like pushing the jerk in the water while the electrical currant was on. LOts of sad stories. LOU.

I live in Wayland, bout 11 mi from Naples, still driving to work in Rochester.Another 6-7 yrs if retirement plans hold up,Ill admit it aint gettin no easier.

A lot of people catch catfish like that around here. Everybody calls it "telephoning" because they use the generators out of old telephones.

I participated in that when I was a conservation student at CCFL forty years ago. We recorded data for them. They said then it was mostly a publicity stunt to kick off the fishing season. Their jobs depend on the sale of fishing licenses so they try to drum up a little excitement for it.

I did that when I was at SUNY Morrisville in '97-'98 taking Conservation. Stuns the fish so you can sample the streams population and their sizes. You can figure out a lot of information regarding the carrying capacity of the stream.

I was running the probe in one class and there was this pretty blonde carrying the shocker. She lost her footing in a pool and went completely under. The Professor was hollering and everyone when I turned I saw the cord going under and couldn't see her. I stuck my hand under, caught the backpack strap and pulled her up coughing and sputtering. Shortly after that we started dating, got married and have been together for nearly 12 years now! :D
