I didn't want to hijack Jim Spurlock's post so I thought I'd start another one.

Wasn't a 15-30 always a 15-30? My understanding is there never was officially a 22-36. The 15-30 was tested three times at Nebraska as a 15-30, but that was an underrated figure so everyone started calling it a 22-36. I know somebody on this board can set me straight.Jim

the 22-36 also had an oil filter ,water pump and v belt.the serial # tag stayed with the 15-30 model designation but gave the 22-36 h.p. ratings.it was built up to 1934 when the WA-40 took over.

Dave,
"Officially," yes, my understanding is that the 4 3/4 inch bored engine on the tractor with the water pump, etc. was still a 15-30. My understanding is that this is because the farmers knew the 15-30 and it was respected. So, International kept the 15-30 official designation. As far as decals, I have seen restored 22-36 versions with 22-36 decals. Is that original? I don't know, but I'm led to think it is not. I understand that the 22-36 variant may have been marketed internationally with 22-36 decals, but not in the U.S. with the 22-36 decals. Someone like Guy Fay may be able to give us more detail on this. I am very interested in the accurate history of this as well, so perhaps we will uncover the true story.

from what i have heard, is that the 15-30 name was kept to prevent confusion ordering parts. they referred to them as the old style and new style 15-30.

also the rad was changed from the round core to the flat cores for the 22-36. i think they stayed with the 15-30 name because the serial #s just continued and did not start over for the 22-36.
