COME IN FROM PAINTING THE TRACTOR AND WANTED TO WARM UP MY PLATE IN THE MICROWAVE,, durn thang soon as i flipped open the door , microwave starts running without programming , , shuts off with door shut, and when programed will do exactly as timer asks , heating correctly and shutting down in time programed just like normal , soon as door opens irt starts running again ,,, that could be dangerous ???? anyone whats wrong with the TAPPAN microwave?
 
Hay Jim; Sounds like you oughta talk real nice to it, or bang he## out of the button that opens the door. If that fails you better sweet talk your bride into fixing you some viddles.
 
COMMON problem.

One of the door safety switches (microswitch) has got a pair of contacts welded together.
 
Ditto Bob's comment. There are usually 3 micro switches, some "NO" some "NC" that are operated by the door latch. Supposed to replace all together. Agree that the tube (heat source) is likely not running when the door is open. One of the switches is upposed to short the line and blow the fuse if the tube is powered up with the door open.
 
The ground only carries current during fault conditions. The neutral potential conductor and line conductor carry current.
 
for the price of a new one these days, you can't afford to monkey around long trying to guess what's wrong with the old one.

PS _ don't ever run it empty, or with just a plate in it. Be sure there is some food item with moisture in it, or put a cup part full of water in it.
