propane torches

I have a few small invasive shrubs amur honeysuckle and others, in my woodlot. TSC has a 50,000 btu propane torch. (Could be hotter than that.) Considering buying one to kill these plants.
Anyone use one of these? Do they work?

They appear to be very popular out west. My brother uses one in Wyoming, and is very happy with his. I've got one and I only use mine to get the fire started in brush piles. It really sets them alight. However,,,you can use the fuel so quickly that a 20 pound tank will frost up and stop producing propane vabors. So you have to get used to how they operate.
Good luck, Harvey

We use them at work in the cold months to thaw hoses and valves and such on our sludge tankers and applicators.. Only problems we've ever had with em is accidentally melting the gas hose, or running the wand over with the tractor. As said, they will eat up a bit of propane.

Use herbicide if you want a complete kill. A product containg Tordon or Garlons active ingredients would work.

Don't burn down the neighborhood, and abide by any burning laws. Here in NY you could be substancially fined for burning anything out doors at the wrong time.

I am not so sure it will work on woody plants without really "putting it to it". I have found that the best way it to cut the stuff down with the chainsaw and then paint the stumps with tordon as someone else has mentioned. I don't spray it on as I don't want the overspray.... just use a paint brush. The torch really works well on non-woody plants tho'! I also use it for lighting up the brush piles... excellent! You will find lots of other uses for the torch too, if you were to get one.
