sorry, drum mowers again....

Sorry to bring this up again but I won't sleep until I know

I think this is my kinda mower in the link (seems simple enough). Question is, the website says minimum 28HP for the 165 (which is the most common and best price I have found). Question is, my tractor is 26HP diesel (8N size and not a new compact). Think it could handle it? Biggest place I'd be mowing is 2 acres and the rest are smaller, speed not being a real issue because it would have to be faster and easier to use than the sickle mower. Thanks for any advice.

Comparing the mowers in the link, the one recommended for me (135) is 12" shorter and 150 pounds lighter than the 165 that I am looking at. I forgot to mention that I have a front loader frame that will be putting about 80 pounds on the oposite corner and, if the mower does the job, will be taking another hundred pounds or so off the right side by removing the sickle mower. Would this and filling the left rear tire take care of me?

Thanks, Dave

I don't think 2 hp is going to be a big deal, put the tractor in a lower gear or have someone turn the fuel pump up a notch to give you a couple extra hp,goodnite Dave

Post a picture of the tractor, and I'll give you an honest opinion. Either that , or I and others will make fun of it, hee-hee!

Dave,
Every time I see you ask such a question I always wonder if you checked into the maschinenring (machine co-op) in your area. Could be something to at least look into.

Don't make a lot of sense to ask someone that thinks the only correct way of doing something is the way they are doing it. That's why I post the question here. Sometimes I get decent answers from folks attempting to help and sometimes I get folks that don't have an answer but have to give some kind of input anyway.

I appreciate the folks that try to help.

Here's the tractor (link) in german and english

(quoted from post at 17:05:31 04/25/10) Why would you ask a maschinenring? Just pay the fee and use the equipment is what I was referring to.

Sorry....... Got you now. They call it a little different in my area and it doesn't include big stuff. Gardening, orchards, some power tools, tillers, etc. As for farming equipment, you'd think folks would have a coop or at least work together, but no............ I get more help from the farmers than they give each other.
Guess they have their reasons though.

It looks stout enough, but you may want to start looking for front weights, and all around wheel weights. On my D-12 Allis, I have front wheel weights, and 5 or 6 kubota 55 lb suitcase weights, and 1 80 lb rear wheel weight on the left side. A 20 lb weight set on the rear of the mower will get the whole thing a bouncin, going down the hard road!

I've got a 250+/- pound frt axle weight on it now. Wheel weights are hard to find but I'm looking. Think I can fill the left rear tire if needed. I'll try it then.

Thanks, Dave

Dave, just looked it up, my D12 weighs 2945 lbs, unballasted. Yours weighs about 46 lbs less, so some weights are definitely in order. You may not have the power to go in high gear, but should be able to get it spinning.

Conditions won't allow high gear anyway so I'm actively searching now.

Local kid has one and insists that I can borrow it anytime I want, but it translates to "I want to use your baler anytime I want". I'm not stingey, just don't like owing anyone.
