Solo and Efco chainsaws and power equipment question

Efco, used to be olimpic (not to be confused with Echo) Seems like they show up in a few small shops (or mail orders) sell them. There not bad quality. But my question is how popular are they accros the country and will either ever be big big players??? Most people think Stihl Husky, Echo etc and Homelite, Mcculloch from a bygone era.

i doubt they'll be big players, even if the quality is good, there a short line saw, stihl and husky are established lines and have a parts source in nearly every town of any size at all, and there full line companies, meaning they sell everything from cheap consumer grade saws for the guy that just needs to prune a branch in his yard once in awhile to upper mid line, the guy that cuts his own firewood and does some tree work,or lives on a farm or ranch, to professional saws that are used by loggers and some guys couldn't even pick up off the ground, their service stores carry parts for all of them, in the stock as a rule no mail order parts for a guy who makes his living with his saw

Efco are very well built saws. Going by today's standards, they are 100% professional quality. Very common in Europe, especially Italy where they are made and sold as OleoMac, Emak, etc. All Efcos 46 ccs and bigger have full ball bearing mains, metal crankcases, etc. They got sued over the older "Olympyk" name and had to drop it.

But prices? I haven't seen any good deals around. Dolmar saws have much better pricing and have the most saw for the dollar out there - for a professional level saw.

Dolmar and Sthil evolved at the same time, since the two salesmen and inventors worked togeher (Lerps and Stihl). Emil Lerp and Andreas Stihl both worked as saw salesmen for Rinco in the 1920s. Lerp invented his gas saw first, and Stihl 2nd. Lerp named his company for the mountain, Mount Dolmar.

Dolmar has always been popular in Europe and is now outselling Stihl all over the world.

Makita is an authorized seller of several models of Dolmar in the USA.

Echo also makes some great smaller saws but are overpriced.

Homelite and McCulloch went the homeowner route years ago and disappeared. Both names are Asian-owned now.

Husky and Stihl are now doing the same. Many Stihl saws are now made in China and India. Husky and Poulan Pro come from the same Electrolux company.

Dolmar, right now, has the best saw for the money.

JD for the record Dolmar always had dealer/distributor problems around here. They were in and out. Many outfits sold them for a short period of time then they were gone. Seemed the same for Solo.

I worked for a dealer starting around 1970 that sold Dolmar, Stihl, and Homelite. Parts support was never great for Dolmar or Stihl. But, Stihl built a presence in the USA via Viriginia Beach and worked at the US market a lot more then Dolmar did. So, Stihl got better with USA support.
That was way before the Internet exisited.

Now with the Internet and access to parts all over the world? I can get parts for Dolmars just as easy as for Stihl. In fact, I recently needed a part for one of my Stihls and Stihl-USA told me "no parts available." So, I used the Net to look for parts in Europe and got my parts shipped to me from West Germany.

"Forrestry Suppliers" dealers in stuff for
Professional forresters etc, has "SOLO" and
"EFCO" brands, Also "Baileys"

Solo is an old saw brand in Europe. They produced the first one-man direct-drive saw in Germany (before Stihl or Dolmar) and also built many saws for Husqvarna.

I don't know much about the smaller ones that are popping up now though, in the consumer/homeowner market.
Seems they are relying on the "newness" of the Internet to get a presence in the US market.
