I cut my lawn 3 days ago, with the 12 hp B&S in a Stiga mower, and everything seemed OK. I shut it off and next day it wouldn't start. I've discovered that the battery I installed wasn't tied down tightly and managed to break a plastic box that held electrical connections. I've repaired that, cleaned connections, but it will turn over and fire with the key in the start position, but will not run when key springs back to normal operating position. Could I have burnt out something?
Any ideas?
Thanks

You may have messed up one of the many safety switch they have now days. One the carb you will see a wire if you remove that wire try to start it. I'll bet it will run but the bad thing is you also will not be able to shut it off with that wire loose. Oh by the way it may not have that wire also but if your lucky it will

Typical 12 HP B/S (unless it is really old) does not need battery voltage to run, just to crank the engine and operate the antifire solenoid in the carb. Old was partically correct on the wire to the carb. That wire must have 12 volts to pull the solenoid plunger from the main jet so it will run. Somewhere you are losing the 12 volts. Maybe a fuse.
