IR Air compressor

Hey guys,

I went last night to look at a large engine driven air compressor that I planned on using to run a sandblaster. It's a Iingersoll-Rand (Which I always believed to be a better brand) and overall looked to be in good repair. Radiator full, so on.. Has a 4 cylinder engine (unsure of the make)

It belonged to a mechanic who used to use it alot, but bought a diesel and set this unit aside for back-up. It appears that it never had the exhaust covered and now it's stuck. (it's been outdoors for a while now, as I drive by the place on a very regular basis)

The gentleman is in the process of moving, and don't plan to move it (at least that's how I understood it) and says it can be mine cheap (but he don't know it is stuck yet, as I haven't talked to him since I looked at it)

I understand the risks in buying this as it sits, as it could be a simple unstick and use, or it could be totally ruined, worn out, and junk.. I'd just like to know what you folks think would be a fair offer before I put a foot in the mouth, or before I insult the owner. I myself think SCRAP PRICE should be close to fair, as that way if it is junk, I'm not too hurt on the deal.

Opinions?

Thanks, and sorry for the long post

Brad

The minium air flow if you want to do sandblasting would be 70 psi and 70 cfm unless you have tons of time that would be using a 3 1/6 nozzle on the gun. Now if you are planning on doing large jobs you need a lot more air. These figures are fine for doing tractors and that type of stuff. Got to remember that damp air also enters in. My suppline is 75 ft 1/2 ribber hose and i will coil it into a plastic tank with cold water then the moisture trap on the sand blast pot catches the moisture before gettin into the pot and plugging the mnaterial. This system of cooling the compressed air works well. I do drain the trap every 15 minutes or so. This works when the RH isthe 70s or even wetter.
