What gets into people's heads???
Americans have a real bad rep here as far as pets go. Majority of pets in animal shelters withing 60 miles of an American community are abandoned by soldiers (and some civilians). Because of this, it is almost impossible for an American to buy a pet here unless it comes out of the trunk of a car in a border rest area. Wife and I decided that we wouldn't be that way with the dogs and cats we raise and just play it by ear. Anyway, sold most of the last litter of puppies to soldier families.
Now two weeks later, 1 ended up at a shelter, we got one back because it was abondoned on the back side of post (chip traced to us), and one is for sale in the paper. 11 week old puppies. How were these folks raised???

Done now.

Is it short attention spans or just the nature of being a solider?

The latter part being folk constantly being on the move? Still, even if you have the slightest idea that you might be on the way out, either deployed or just transferred to a new base why would you go about getting a puppy?

You're right, I don't get it...

Dave, If I were you, I'd report the animal being abandoned to the base commander. I'm sure there is some repercussion that soldier may have to endure. As a service member, I don't like seeing this kind of act. I'm not much of an animal person myself, but wrong is wrong.

In our case, we won't sell to someone getting ready to leave. In most cases, Military pays to move pets anyway, and it is not much out of pocket expense either. Mostly laziness....Don't want to spend the time house training mostly.

They are being dealt with. I work for the Garrison Commander. We are called first in any abandoned animal case just to see waht's up and keep an animal from going to a shelter. You could adopt a kid quicker than getting a pet out of a shelter

Too bad people can not be more responsible in taking care of an animal. In the future you may have to do a little background checking on people to see if they are worthy enough to purchase one of your puppies. Some people just don"t have the commitment to properly take care of an animal and the animal winds up suffering.

I live in a rural area, people just dump there pets along the road at the end of someone's drive way and figure we'll take care of them. Seen a dog dropped off one day loaded it in the truck and followed the people to their house and returned their dog. Got chewed out for returning it as they no longer wanted it. I told him I sure and the heck didn't want it either. Told him to take crae of it properly

Unfortunately, you're right. We said we'd never do that but I'm real ticked about now. Worse thing is, these people ruin them for the next family that may end up with them.

same can happen here we had a litter with ours being the sire daughters the damm, sold all the pups now one family wants to return their pup, don't have time for it. helping them find a buyer 16wks old Shi-tsu

I'm the last place on a dead end road and get lots of drop offs.It sounds bad,but I just shoot them. Wish I could shoot the people that dropped them off instead though.

Not a thing in the world wrong with that as long as you are responsible and do it quick.
People are out there sometimes.

We started to discover that here, too. Adoption fee from a shelter runs between $100 to $300, with shelters insisting that they come to your home and make sure you're fit to own a dog. I have no problem with the visit, and I guess I understand that they have to charge a fee, but we ended up just getting a couple free dogs from some folks that were moving into town and wouldn't have room for them. Only cost was that involved with driving 130 miles to Vancouver, WA.

Lack of responsibility for one's personal actions. "Do what you want without consequences" has been promoted since the 60's.

i hate that too, city folks or temporary residents who arnt willing to take care of there pet have no buiseness with them, and espically bringing thenm out in the country for us to deal with, where i live there is abundant game of all sizes from gophers to bears and mountain lions on the top of the food chain, but domestic dogs do not have the hunting skills to live off the land like coyotes foxes and wolves do, we have 3 dogs on the farm, 1 was adopted from the shelter, got her as she reminded me of a dog i had as a kid, the other 2 were riding the grub line and obviously had been for quite awhile before they stopped off here, 1 was a visla, and turns out, after i got some meat back on his bones, he's the best dog ive ever had, dont know if its the breed or he;s just that glad to have a permanant home with ample food, the other is the oddest critter ive ever seen he;s apparently half german shepard, and half bassethound 2 feet tall and 4 feet long lol , great personality, his only problem is he likes to herd animals, he heards cattle, tried to heard horses, and cant pull that off as they each have their own pen and stall , and also goats,[ left over from kids goat tying, some years ago] even if you dont want a cow or a goat at that particular time for anything, 'buddy' will heard them togeather, and get one for you , still cant break him of doing that

I was raised to take care of any animal that needed it. Dad told all us kids if he ever saw us beat an animal. We would be next.
Hate it when I see people dropping off pets in the country. Caught a man doing that one time. Two little puppies left on the county road.
Followed him to a gas station. Grabbed the puppies and walked up to his car. Ask him in front of his wife and kids. Why are you leaving these puppies to die. Wife got mad kids were crying and he could not give me a good answer.
Told the kids I would find the puppies a good home. May have been wrong in making the kids cry. But I really wanted to make a point with him.

Pets??? Here in the citys the hospital will take your unwnated kid, no questions ask. Had too many end up in dumpsters.

I think the least they could do is spay or nuter the one droping them off.

No respect for life. Human or animal.

Dave, consider this. My neighbors sell German Shepherds. All their breeding stock is imported from Germany. They get 3500 each for 12 week old puppies. In 30 years they have only picked up one that was abandoned. Maybe you are selling to cheap.
I get their retired stock and love them even though they are old. They only have about 5-6 litters a year.
