Yipee! No rain on the oats. Hot and dry yesterday and today really dried them out. Baled 55 bales this p.m. Nice green oats hay.

I help my two sons who own most of the hay equipment so I in turn get to use their machines on my small operation. Swathed with a 3 year old MF (Hesston design) self-propelled swather with disc header. I raked two windrows together with my 4020 and JD 858A rake before baling. Baled with #2 son's JD 568 baler powered with a JD 4455 tractor. Baler has net wrap also, but I usually use string as I hate feeding those net wrapped bales in the winter even though the bales keep better with wrap.

When did you plant them oats. Been to muddy here all spring, just got them planted a month ago. Then cool and no sunshine, so come out of the ground a inch and set there. Just now starting to grow. Up about four inches.

Planted March 29th. Usually like to plant them earlier, but was too cold and wet. Sons of mine planted a couple of weeks earlier and the oats headed about the same time as mine. Last year I no-tilled some German millet following the oats and it did well. Thinking about doing the same thing again.

What are you selling the bales for how heavy are they? I've also been looking for a pickup load of oats to buy at the price the elevator pays, not what they sell it for.
