Flail Mower question

The flail mower I have someone removed the belts for what ever reason, and installed a #60 chain. Bad move, the drum turns so fast the chain is dry in a hour of operation. I am in the process of reinstalling the belts. Anyone have a flail mower with a 7 1/2ft drum? If so how many belts are on the drum pulley? The mower is no longer in production, or I would be looking in the manal. It is a Dandil anyone have a manual? Thanks for any info. stan

I used to have an MC (Mathews Company) I think it was about as wide as yours, and it was a good mower. I think it had two belts. Most importantly you might be able to look it up and use info. from that to fix yours.

I had a 6ft FMC flail mower for a while. It had two belts on it and in heavy grass they would slip sometimes so I would think you would need at least two.

I have a 7' Verisimo and it has two belts I have never had it slip but the belts run prety tight.
And they are a matched set.

Stan, the belt needs to be able to slip, as it serves as a clutch if the cutter shaft gets bound up. (Which is one reason they use belts in the first place.) My six foot Mott uses a single wide belt.

You might give a call to the two main suppliers of aftermarket flail mower parts: Montage (866-435-2457) and Flailmaster (800-251-4020). Even if they don't carry the parts, there's a good chance they will have a manual for your mower of which they might be willing burn you copy.
