I am not a machinist, as you probably guessed. I bought a machinist's tool chest at an auction and it was filled with tools. Some of them I recogtnize, but am not sure how these are used.
There was about 200 of these pieces

Chris is right, they are carbide inserts for various lathe and milling cutting tools. They go in a special holder and are turned around when one edge is worn out.

Those are Carbide inserts some of those are threading inserts, value is about $5 each if they are unused, or more. But them on ebay and see if you can get some money for them.

What ever you do with them, don't throw them in the garbage. Carbide has a scrap value of several dollars per pound.

I use most of those types with all of my CNC lathe tooling. I only have a couple of mill cutters that take inserts.

Pappy: I can't believe you don't know what they are! There Ninja Throwing stars. Put on your black Ninja clothes so your stealthy, and go out and take care of your enemies! LOL :>) Sorry I really don't have a clue, just feeling like being stupid, Have a good day mike

Couple of DNMG's, couple of CNMG's, TNMG, threading/grooving inserts, profile mill head buttons, some ceramic, mostly carbide, mostly used. Not worth much to any one shop due to the variety of sizes, geometries, grades, manufacturers. Probably worth the most as scrap (at one time scrap carbide was at $9/lb - not sure what it's at now) but good luck with that. Hope you have a receipt with at least a brief discription of the contents of that chest or you will be suspect to the scrap tooling dealer. Over the last year and a half several "crack heads" stopped at the shop I work at to see if we wou GIVE them our used carbide. Said they were with "XYZ" sharpening and would send us a check later -YEAH RIGHT!

Good luck,
Bill

Kinda what I was thinking there too Landlord. Without knowing exactly what each insert is (grade, size, brand, coating, etc...) they're really only worth scrap value. No shop is gonna buy a bunch of misc. inserts from a guy on Ebay unless they're desparate, and even then I think they would need their head examined.

Even with scrap, there's what, not even .25 lbs there? They'd just go in the garbage if I didn't work in a machine shop.

I bought a tool box like that once too. Came with a bunch of different inserts. Some I used, most were useless to me. I put them in a bucket with the rest of the scrap inserts because they were just taking up valuable space for stuff that I knew what it was.
