O/T Internet service...........

Does anyone have either Wild Blue or Blue Sky Internet service? If anyone does, comments? Opinions?

We have wireless service with the transmitter on top of a grain elevator 5 1/2 miles away. It was flawless for the first year and a half, now it's a crapshoot whether it's going to work. It will go on and off a couple of times during the day.

My next options are probably Wild Blue and Blue Sky.

I guess I can say it is better than dial-up if you are lucky.......sort of expensive for dial-up speeds. (it will get that slow in the evenings when everyone is on)

And I do have a burr under my saddle when Hughes.net didn't remedy service problems when they "upgraded" satellites several years ago. Foregoing installation charges on a new system they wanted to install just wasn't my idea of a good deal since their was no gaurantee the "new" system would be any better than the old.

I think you would be better of spending the time to figure out why the wireless isn't working.

Have had wild Blue ( very remot area of Tenn hills) Nothing else avl..Over all very satisfied.. About $650.00 per year but as much as I use it it is a bargain..Have cable at the other house probably a little more reliable, but it is from an out fit called charter cominucations and has issues pretty regular..
Hope this helps.. O my neighbor has Hughes and came over and check my wild blue says he is switching , wild blue was better according to him.

Monday my Wildblue will be replaced by Hughes. I've had it about 3 1/2 years. If I could get them to respond to issues of slowing to a crawl in the evening and being very weather sensitive, I probably wouldn't be changing. Neighbor just got Hughes and it's working much better than my Wildblue. I suppose equipment changes are quite rapid. So maybe a new Wildblue installation today would be much better. Maybe being up here in the northeast corner of the country is problematic for many things !?
I am just tired of all this long distance/anonymous/paperless/credit card way of doing business. A real person whom you can see and speak to face to face makes a great deal of difference for me.

This subject comes up every couple of months, but my attitude of them hasn't changed. We used to have dialup and poor dialup at that. Actual download speed was about 21K. We went to Wild Blue and it was better than dialup, but our system was down all the time and using it during a storm (when you really need it to watch the cloud formation) was impossible. We now have DSL only because we had the internet provider bury about 1 mile's worth of line at about a cost to us of about $1600. We actually had to do it because my wife works from home as a computer programmer and her employer demanded high speed connect.
As I've said before, Wild Blue or Blue Sky is better than dialup, but I would not consider any satellite ISP a high speed connect.
BTW, after so much data download, they will cut you off because you exceeded your limit and your speed will be SLOWER than a bad dialup. They also messed up on our bill where we were charged for the highest speed, but our settings were on the lowest speed. One of their honest employees caught it and reimbursed our account for quite a bit of money.

Have you talked to your ISP at all about these problems. We recently got wireless service . Transmitter is less than a mile away not that that should make a difference though. We were having all sorts of problems with it. Both times it was the transmitter. The last time it went out we called them and they said nobody else was having trouble but eventually they figured out that their transmitter got enough of some lightning to mess things up. Nothing seroius but they fixed it and replaced everyones powersupply and radio. Has worked flawlessly for a month and we"ve had it for about 2.5. The other thing that helps is to unplug the power supply and restart the computer. Don"t do it to often and ask your ISP before you try this. If you"ve called your ISP and they won"t help I guess I would listen to whatever these guys say. Luckily for me I"ve never had to put up with Satellite and hopefully I"ll never have to.

Doesn't matter which satellite provider you use......wildblue, skyblue, blue in the face......Don't know of a single one that isn't a reseller of Hughes Network.

I have rebooted several times, my ISP doesn't care. System has worked fine for a long time, I have only had to have the repair people out once. Had to be walked through a procedure over the phone a couple of times. Overall a very good system -- I'm about 2 miles from the transmitter.

We've had broadband from a transmitter about 4 miles away for 3 years. Service has been great, very few problems and they have been promptly taken care of. Good customer service over the phone too. I'd never go back to dial up.

My mom has WildBlue, I have Hughes. We are about a mile apart. Her service does not even come close to mine. Think she is paying about 60 a month and I am paying around 90. I am not sure A higher plan would help, as sometimes her service seems almost non-existent. I recently hit my download max with HughesNet and slowed to a crawl. They have a downloader that you use to set up downloads between in the (free zone) 2 and 7 am. Seems mine started 2 hours early! They credited me, and a phone call jumped my speed right back up. It is higher for equipment and bandwidth, but it works.

Grain elevator about 1 mile from me. It's been over a year & I have had to unplug router about 3 times durning that time. Storms never been a problem ISP provider has been great.
With dial-up so slow I figure it was wasteing my life away trying to download stuff. You might want to check with your provider.

I've got Wild Blue here and Hughes Net at the farm, if you are only online between 11 pm and 5 pm, dont do any big downloads or streaming video, dont mind not having service when it rains/fog/clear/snow/ice/hot/cold at any random point in time its great. I say that firmly tongue in cheak. As soon as I can get Time Warner to string the cable accross the 4 lane Im switching, even if it costs double, which it doesnt.
