WATCH YOUR DOG!!!!!

Had a real bad scare today. About 8am this morning I was moving stuff around in the shop. I knocked a bottle of Hi-yield 38+ insecticide (38% permethrin) over on the floor. Our dog Lilly (97 pound golden retriever lab mix) was with me, and I noticed her sniffing around the spill as soon as it happened. I cleaned the spill right away and took the dog in the house for the wife to watch/keep an eye on. About noon, Stephanie noticed Lilly's eyes twitching, and when she walked she wasnt very stable. Off to the races...She called the vet, and they recommended taking Lilly to the local emergency animal vet hospital in Blue Ash (ohio) that is a normally 55 minuate trip. I was hauling the mail....we were there in 27 minuates. They put a cathater in, charcoal pills, and a bath. Lilly is gonna be ok, but sure scared the crap out of me. Lilly has been with us 3 years last saturday. she was a stray that wondered into our yard (and hearts) and it would kill me to loose her. The whole trip there I was beside myself with worry of what might have to be done. THANK GOD that wasnt the case! I will update tommorow when the furball comes home. (she had to stay over tonight)

I had locked the grandsons pup in the garage when we left home and came back to an open bag of mouse poison, trip to the vet,200.00 later he was fine.

Wow...

Blue Ash? Good friend is a vet tech there. Been there once with a puppy. The wife and I had the night to ourselves, dinner out planned, kids at friends. Puppy got lumpy after his shots. Made the trip from Indiana rather quickly too. We ate carryout that night.

Good unit/people there.

What part of town you from?

Good luck with the doggie.

Tony

I can beat all that. I combined the neighbors bird dog. Danged thing cut a rabbit's trail and ran straight into the header while I was opening up a wheat field.

They dont thrash real well (

My cousin bought a dog for 50 cents in the parking lot of the local cattle auction when I was a kid. He was a Basque Shepherd, and the best herding dog I ever saw. He herded cattle without running them- finally got to where we could just tell him "go get em", and he would go to the far end of the field and round up all the dairy cows and bring them to the barn. Never ran them- if somebody was hesitant, he'd go over and bark a couple of times, and that was it. They soon learned that when Peppy came out, it was time to go to the barn, and he just trotted along behind.

Spawning salmon are death on dogs- an infection called (go figure) "salmon poisoning". We had a creek where salmon spawned, and Peppy got into one. Vet diagnosed it, and sent him home- Peppy was not doing well when I went to school, and when I came home, he was gone. Only time I ever saw my Dad cry.

It stinks when someone has a problem with a pet they obviously love and a jerk like you kills someones pet and says " They don't thresh well" I'm sure it was an accident but use your head.

It always pays to be careful around the family dog. Those critters will lick anything just out of couriousity. Anti-freeze is the real killer. My dog got close to drinking some that boiled over from my truck. Stopped him in time, rushed him to the vet where activated charcoal did the trick.. We are lucky to have Michigan State Univerisity here where Vet Medicine is big time carreers for students. They have all the modern technology but also cost big $$$$.

Reminds me of the drive i made after getting my yellow lab with the sickle mower. Was mowing a 4-wheeler trail and she was kinda following me and I didnt see her and she didnt hear the mower. Had to pick her up and carry her, all 80lbs, I ran for a mile with her back to the house and raced to the vet. Sickle cut 1 front leg off clean and a few toes missing off the back. That was on July 7, 2007. She gets around good but is lazy and getting over weight. Worry about the extra weight on her good front leg. But shes still a good duck hunting dog!!!!!!!!!

TonyIN, I am from northern butler county. I live about a hour north of cincinnati. I knew where the pet hospital was already. I had to take one of grandpa's hounds there about 10 years ago. Lilly is doing fine, and we are going to get her about noon. Wife called this morning, and when they went to check on her, you could hear her barking in the background. Looking forward to her being home where she belongs.

Dogs are not our whole lives, but the make our lives whole. I dont know what I would do without her.

Reminds me of helping my (ex) brother-in-law finish up his soybeans one year; I was running an "F" Gleaner and he had his "715" IH. This was back when cottontails were plentiful and one ran straight into his header; nothing he could do about it. It was missing a little fur when it came out over the strawwalkers, was slung off the spreader; ran off and apparently survived. :>)

Our dog chased a rabbit towards the combine one day- too late noticed the corn header- jumped up into it, dog went underneath. FWIW, Craftsman pipe wrenches don"t thresh very well either, but it made it through! Just a nice bend in it. Only works with the combine concave open enough for corn.

Am am very happy to say that Lilly is now home and resting on the couch. She was so glad to see us when we picked her up at noon. She could hardly sit still enough to get her collar and leash on. She is now home, has toured the yard to check everything out, and made her rounds in the house. So very blessed for her to be back in good health.

He didn't say it he typed it on an internet discussion forum probably years after the fact. Enough with the fake outrage crybaby. You professionally offended types really need to grow a pair.
