Things Dad dose

Took this picture today of dad having a senior moment. We have been working on a 1968 Chevy 4x4 frame and rolled it out to bring the cab in to work on it. Well he thought he could pick the back end up and scoot it over. NOT! I then asked him what he was smoking in those cigars? He replied I used to be able to do that! I said dad your 70 now and I don't think you should try that again, he looked at me and said I'm Not to old to take you to the wood shed! Ok dad lets have a sit-a-pon and drink something cold! Whats a fella to do? Bandit

Just tell your dad he is not a spring chicken any more and he should ask for help once in a while. Ya BTDT and know both how you feel and how your dad feels. Back in the day I could do what he tried but not any more. Shoot in my prime I could lift 300 lbs and I was only 140lbs so I could lift twice plus my weight

292? I had a '69 K-20 that had a 292 and Dana 70's front and rear. Best truck I ever owned. Wish I never sold it. Never got stuck once, and when came close, get our and dig out the hubs, lock them in, get in and dump the clutch in granny, and let 'er walk its way out. Never failed.

There's a fella I pass every weekend on US12 in Galien, MI that looks to me as though he only builds or restores 67 through 72 Chevys and GMCs, pickup and Blazer or Jimmy. The good ones. The best ones. I wish that fella nothing but the best, and God bless him for having his heart in the right place.

Best of luck to you getting that thing back on the road.

He can be hard to keep up with at times, When we do hay I make sure that he is driving the truck while I stack and my boys throught hay to me. Got to get his gleaner out and fix the robot so he can cut beans this fall. I dont know what I would do with out him. Bandit

Its a 250 3 speed 1/2 ton that I owned for 25 years. I got the time now and desided it was time to fix her up right. Me and dad tore into it together and wont stop till its done. I going to let dad taker out to drive her on her first run. Its a 25 year old father son project. Bandit

I forgot. I broke some teeth in a gear, forget which one, but I filled the tranny with 200 weight STP until I could get around to it. Well it got cold and snowy, and after setting all night until it got good and warmed up, going from gear to gear took about 30 seconds. Back then though, long thick steel floor shifts, and that stick sure did get worked out, and even warmed up in the winter time still took about 5 seconds between gears. Oh well, still the best truck I ever owned...sniff, sniff, sniff.

just looking at the pic, and it looks like he may be trying to lift at least a thousand lbs there, figuring 4 to 500 for the rear end, wheels and tires, 50 to 75 for the springs, the 3/4 length of the frame past the centerline of the front axle which will be the pivot point , also he has all the weight of the transfer case and transmission plus at least half of the engine, he might have been able to do it some years ago, and if so i'll gladly stand aside and call him sir, any day, not a gent i want mad at me

I'll soon be approaching your dad's age. I"ve got a son that's probably about your age too. We gotta keep up with you young bucks you know. I'd hate to have to take him to the wood shed (again) now. BUT......I'm sure as heck not going to tell him that!
WONDERFUL STORY!

Be thankful that you still have your dad to "joke" around with.

Looks like your off to a good start on rebuilding your 68 Chevy 4x4.

Thanks for sharing your photo with us.

My father would be 71 if he was still with us.Lost him almost 20 years ago.Enjoy every day hope you get in each others way for a long time.

Great story and as others have said, be thankful you still have him to do things with. My Dad passed 15 years ago today way to early, he was only 63. We had a '69 GMC with 250 and "3 on the tree", that was what I learned to drive at an early age. Once I have the time and money I will be restoring old vehicles, a '67-'72 Chevy/GM truck will be the first one.
Good luck with your rebuild and thanks for sharing. Looks good so far.
