Hot and dry again today, central Kansas

Currently 108F at Hutchinson, KS. Low humidity @ 23% (thank goodness for that!). Good news is that a front is coming down from the north and it is not supposed to be so hot the next few days. I think it has exceeded 100F here every day this week, mostly 102F-108F. Oh well, it is summer in Kansas. We are in desperate need of rain.

I'm sure getting tired of it. Up a degree now according to the airport and Wunderground to 109º with a heat index of 112º.

I don't use air-conditioning in my house and it climbed to 92º inside yesterday before it ever started cooling down. I only got it down to 84º overnight by leaving my whole house attic fan on overnight.

Doubt my central AC even works as I haven't used it since 1997. May have to rewire my house over winter and prepare for using at least a window unit next year.

I'm in Hutch too BTW.

I have a friend that lives in Larned. I"ve developed a keen interest in tall grass prairies. My dad spent two weeks for summer camp in the reserves at Ft. Riley--50 plus years ago. We went with him and stayed in Junction City. Little did I know then, we were in the heart of the Flint Hills.

I'm originally from Oberlin up on the Northern border. My mother still lives there and she said it has been over 100 for a week up there. I'm in Great Falls, MT, where it only got to 65 today with intermittent rain showers, just what we don't need with wheat harvest in full swing.

On the state line S of Caldwell, 108 today. Man this has been one tough summer. You can just look at the cows and tell they are under major stress. Mine have shade and buildings to go in that flow air pretty good. some guys don't provide any shade for their animals....How would you like to be a black cow and stand out in this sun all day? I hear they are dropping dead in the feedlots.

I just spoke to a guy that has no AC at home and now I saw you said that too. How in the name of ____ can you not have AC? You are tougher than I am. I can take 0 degrees way better than this s__t. I am sick of it.

I lived in Wichita when I went to a trade school.I started in Sept. and graduated in May, so I didn't get to experience your summers. I guess it isn't too different than Missouri weather. Hate it.

About AC; we didn't have it until 1988 when we built a new house. Lived in an old two story house prior to that but we had a few window fans that helped but it sometimes wouldn't cool down below 90F by bed time. Sometimes the kids slept outside on cots. Was just the opposite in winter; the entire family slept upstairs and on cold winter nights if the kids kept a glass of water by their bed it would freeze. Ahhhh, the good ole days!

104 here in Boyle ,Miss. ...70% humidity makes close to 120 heat index....can't understand how anyone can live without AC....we've had 4 dead in north MS this summer...go outside after noon & instant soaking with sweat

And some of the best cattle country in the United States, ranking right up there with the Sandhills of Nebraska, and the grasslands of Montana.

Raised in the South in an old house with no AC and no electric fans. Summers were long too. The h ouse was not insulated or underpinned and it got cold during winters too.

I'd much rather deal with 100 degrees instead of 0. Give me summer anytime. I can wipe sweat off with a rag, but cold goes to the bone.

Recently went on a bus tour with a number of elderly people on a 100 plus degree day and about the same in humidity. The oldsters who grew up without a/c handled it much better than some of us younger folk. Back then, people stayed out of the house as it got too hot. Much better on the porch or in the shade under a tree. Neighbors actually knew and saw their neighbors every day. Things have changed. No more couches on the front porch except in the south.

There was an old man back home that would say he didn't like the summer time because there was only so naked you could get.
Personally I like it too. You can see what the ladies look like!!!!! HAHA!

I've been on a biking kick since january (wichita ks)...weather permitting..2 days on and a day off, about 130 miles a week (which is nothing compared to what others do). Yesterday was about 109..breezy out of the south southwest, saw one other biker..a jogger up at the park, zoo area...

I luv it...think its the early years on the tractor..conditions a person.

But the drought sucks...we need rain and we need it NOW!..but if nothing else cooler air will work.

I grew up in a 1896 two story home without AC. I ran tractors without cabs with heat pouring back from the radiator fan and up from the transmission and differential.

I worked as a letter carrier for the postal system for about 15 years so worked out in all sorts of weather.

Unlike you I can't handle cold, but with a fan blowing on me and drinking about 1½-2 gallons of liquids each day I get by okay.

Like I said, I'll probably rewire and use AC next year as my age is showing less tolerance to many things.

The attic fan pulled in enough cool air overnight to cool interior and all contents, which act as a heat sink, down to 81º before I turned it off and closed windows this morning.

I really do look forward to the 80º+ forecast of the next few days. It will nice to get back to normal temperatures even if temporary.

I don't like to shop, but did find it rather enjoyable a couple of weeks ago while in the big city of Wichita. Modesty for many is in short supply these days.

A window unit in a small room to sleep in would help wouldn't it? You can get some 115v units for a hundred bucks. I just dont know how you do it.

I get out and do what I have to in this heat but I dont have to like it. Just got done baling hay on a open tractor...put an umbrella on it. I know about hard times but this heat gets harder to deal with every year.

I dread daylight every day.....I know the sun is fixing to bake us.

have to disagree...you can always put on stuff to stay warm but you can't take off enough to stay cool....haven't had a good rain in 8 wks..crops are coming off early ...farmers have been cutting rice ,soybeans & corn all week...harvest time is the only time I miss farming....take care ...Kent

David, been there done that. I grew up in a house built in 1900, didn,t get below 90 on 100 degree days in our upstairs bedrooms and had frost on the ceilings from our breath in winter. Mom still lives there and is to stubborn to turn on the AC most days.
