OT 94 Escort squealing noise

Kinda of topic but this car gets me to work which pays for my tractors. The front passenger side has a scratching/squealing noise. I replaced the brake pads but that did not help. I bought new bearings for that side but now I am thinking that may not be it. There is no slope up and down or front to back. So I am thinking that the bearing is not it. Any ideas??

You didn't give much info... does it squeal at all speeds or just at highway speeds?

If just at faster speeds it COULD be something odd like a little loose piece of trim making wind noise.

On the other hand, FWD wheel bearings can make ALL sorts of noise without having noticeable wear/play.
 
Sorry 'bout that. It makes the noise at low speeds. If I make a right turn it stops. But going straight or left it will make the noise. The noise starts out "pulsing". The noise starts then stops, starts then stops. As I pick up speed it becomes more constant.
 
One man's squealing noise may not be another's. Does the noise only happen with the brakes applied, or does it do it all the time? Does speed change the pitch? You can diagnose a faulty wheel bearing by swerving on the highway. swerve to the left and you load the right side wheels more. If the noise gets louder, pretty good chance it's a wheel bearing. Just because there is no play in the bearing does not mean it's good.
You are certain it's from the front? Wouldn't hurt to pull the drums in back to check everything. Brakes are kinda important...
 
I use what's known as "Chassis Ears" while driving. You can also put the front up on jack stands and run the wheels up to speed and CAREFULLY use a long metal rod to touch the spindle and put it up to your ear. Listen to each side. If one side is faulty, you'll be able to hear the difference.
 
it could be the opposite side you think it is.it could also be in the back not the front.But because you says it don't do it on a right turn I suspect it is your right bearing.I had the same thing on my dodge caravan,turned out it was the rear bearing not the front.But at least I had 2 new bearings after that.Other thing is make sure your not draging a small peice of wire on the drive shaft or the rear axell,happened to me once and it was only about 5" long and I couldn't see it till I got under to change oil.
 
I bet its the wheel bearing. My old Pontiac had the same thing when I went around a corner.
 
After you mentioned the wire dragging, I have to mention this for grins and giggles.

When I was a Ford Service Manager, a farmer call one day and said they were baling hay and his pickup wouldn"t move. I sent a tow truck to pick it up by the rear wheels and bring it in.

Before we even put it in the shop, one of my techs crawled under to see what he could see. What he saw was a large ball of alfalfa wrapped around the driveshaft.
 
We had an Escort and the coil springs would break and rub on the rim, one rubbed on the tire and cut through the side wall. Gene
 
Thanks everyone!!! I found the problem and it is fixed. It was .... (drum roll).... a stuck brake pad! The inside brake pad in the passenger side would not slide on the rear "rod" that it hangs from. I cleaned it with some emory clothe and coated it in PB Blaster. I guess since it was hung up at an angle when I pressed the brake it just used the outside pad to brake. Leaving the inside one to screech the whole time.
