JD 165 backhoe operating pressure?

Good to hear that you had such good luck with your hoe.

I"m mounting mine on a Allis Chalmers D-17 series I. That is why I chose to go independent on the hydraulics.

This hoe does have the skid steer mount on it w/a JD conversion adapter to 3 PT.

This hoe was mounted on a JD 1020 gas tractor. Does that tell you JD guys out there which way these valves might be set up, open or closed?

The parts catalog indicates that valves for the BOOM, SWING, DIPPER have relief valves built into them but not in the bucket valve. This still does not eliminate the need for a SYSTEM relief valve, does it?

My setup is an assy. of parts that were available to me and not necessarily the best choice for the application.

I am using a FARMHAND PTO pump. I believe it is 10 GPM. The tank is 15 GAL. At this point there isn"t a cooler attached. I have a fan/radiator style cooler I could use.

Thanks again to all of you who have responded.

take an air hose, put air into the supply line, leave valves in center position and add air.if air comes out the return line then they are open center.if not it is closed.you have to have open center with the pto pump.

The hoe is currently closed center if properly connected to a 1020.
In the 165 parts manual for the 170 skid steer. There is listed a plug for closed center operation and an OPTIONAL 2000psi relief valve which is required for the open center pump.Pages 15 and 21.

my 165. I made the loader and frame. Hoe works a lot better with a rigid mount

Nice job on that setup. Loader looks real beefy.

Do you have a picture or two of the rigid mount you made for the hoe? Eventually that is what I want to do with mine. Just not sure at this point what would be the best approach. The 3 pt. conversion can be easily removed. Thought I'd use the skid-steer mount but then I could see a real problem mounting and dismounting the hoe. Any thoughts?

Sorry, this is the only picture that I have. I sold the 165 and loader. I made a drawing before I built the loader and frame but that has been 30 years ago. I doubt that I can find it. basically the loader frame goes under the rear axle and attaches to the back hoe in the bottom with pins another beam attaches to the frame in front of the axle and goes over the rear axle and attaches to the top skid loader mount. Look closely at the picture and I think you can get the idea. I had some 3/16 metal bent into an angle. i.5 in on the narrow side and 10 in. on the wide side. I fit the 2 pieces together to form a box. tapered the ends to suit welded and trimed off the excess

Looks stout. The best loader frames tie the rear axle to at least the belhousing and better yet the front axle mount of the tractor.
Those loaders bolted only to the tractor's belhousing are looking for trouble.

Thanks TWOPOP for the test info. Tried it and it is OPEN CENTER. I was happy to find that I could eliminate that conversion issue.

Thanks for the feedback. What brand of tractor is that? Did you use tractor hyd. or PTO. If PTO how large of supply tank did you use.
