Just got off the phone with him. He called just to let me know all was well so far. He has covered a bit over 150 miles from what I can see on the map in just over 2 hours. He said he was close to Cabool MO right now taking a break.
 
Got your e-mail and the funny thing was my wife called right after I got your e-mail so I had her send a text to the boy with your number. By now you should have my home number and the boys cell phone number also and he should have your number as soon as he stops and checks his text messages.
Thanks. Now if I could only find a few more people along the way he could call if he would need help. I did tell him before he left if he did break down and could get to a town your a u-haul place he could always rent a u-haul truck a small one that is load his bike up and head out. Would cost him a good bit more but he would at least get to the base
 
Wow. The bike is probably in good condition and reliable but it sure wouldn't be my first choice for a road trip. Those smaller bikes can be a little buzzy out on the highway and just don't feel quite as planted as a bigger one. But years ago I rode a Yamaha RZ350 all over Montana so he'll probably be fine.
 
Old he will make it. I remember once I left Camp Lejeune NC and drove 400 miles in a jeep with absolutely no brakes. Another time in a Subaru clutch cable broke and I drove across conntry from NC to Calif with no clutch. Dont worry...the kid will be fine and THANK YOU AND HIM for his service to this Country.
 
Wife got a text not long ago from him. He said he was in Jackson MS which means he still has about 150 mile to go and that was about 15 minutes ago.
 
It's a Honda, he'll make it just fine. Those were good old bikes, kind of rough riding but very reliable. I wouldn't have anything but a good old vintage Jap bike. I currently have a 83 Honda 550 Nighthawk and a 84 Honda V65 Magna. The Nighthawk has 9400 miles and the Magna with 14,250.
 
When he left here yesterday his CB550-4 had just over 14,000 on it so as of right now it should be real close to 15K. He got into his off base apartment at 1am this morning
 
I remember being young and tough like that to ride a bike that far. Now that I am older and broke down....it'd kill me probably. glad he is safe.
 
Yep know how you feel. I rode that bike about 80 miles round trip a month or so ago to pick up a couple parts for one of the machines and felt it for days. Funny how things you did years ago seem to hurt a lot but sure can not remember them hurting say 20 years ago. LOL
