I do Soda Blasting and needed a Air Compressor to handle the CFM and PSI .. that I needed ...
Anyway a friend had this Schramm compressor and now it's mine .. the magneto was rebuilt , the gas tank clean and lined , and carburetor clean ..

My problem is .. it will only run with the CHOKE 1/2 out or more .. I e-mail the Schramm and found out that they made compressor's from 1900 to 1980 ... no parts or manuals ...
Does anyone out there have any ideas what or where I can some advice ?? the compressor only has 215 hours on it .. been sitting most it's life .. it puts out 100 psi or 500 psi ...
Would like to get it running better and get the 100 psi up to 150 psi .. if possible .. Just need to know how ...
it is a 6 cyl. with the 1st 3 cyl's as engine and last 3 as compressor ... have no idea what make of engine ..

ANY HELP would be GREATLY APPREACIATE ....

LOOKS LIKE THE OLD UNIT I USED WHEN I DID BLASTING. AS FAR AS 1/2 CHOKE TAKE THE CARB OFF AND CLEAN IT VERY VERY GOOD. SOUNDS LIKE A FUEL RESRTICTION. AFTER THE CARB CHECK THE SEDIMENT BOWL THERE IS A SCREEN IN THERE COULD BE PLUGED. SIMPLE FIXES BUT SOME TIMES YOU DON'T THINK SIMPLE. NICE LOOKING UNIT !

I will get the picture tommorrow ... them are the only pictures I have ...
Sorry for the BIG one ...

THANKS for the idea on the sediment bowl... I will check the screen ...

there is a electric fuel pump on it ...

Clean the carb, and also check for intake manfold leaks, worn throttle shaft (unlikley with low hrs). There are several more options, but it is a starting point. Rust is usualy a no one concern.

i see alot of these floating around here in pa so there has to be parts somewhere probably if you can find out what make the motor is someone on here can tell you where to get parts

Congratulations. I agree w/other replies....carb and or vacuum leak. I would closely look at high speed circuit. Also, I would investigate what pressures are available, I think a single stage compressor is limited to about 100 psi due to excessive heat of compression if operated at higher pressures.

Other posters have probably covered it. However I had a gas tractor once that had similar symptoms plus it burned out points regularly and it turned out to be a bad switch.

Good unit , but keep it cool ,they have a
habit of cracking the head in the center cyl
of the engine end. i have laced several ,then
if they get hot again they crack # 3 engine
end. Fixed that also.

I got one almost like that. It has a distributor instead of mag. Got it from scrap yard, eng stuck, has big lift ring in center of hood. Got 2 of the tractors, use same engine. Both need radiators if you ever come across parts, they were stolen a few years ago. Anyhow, when I got the first one in "91, I did get a manual and parts book from Schramm. No one there seemed to know much about the machines, as in all those folks had retired and gone. They were handy around the farm, take air to where ever in the field. If you look on the air receiver tank, there is a tag with important data on it, a stamp of the inspector etc, and the date it was made. This gives you some idea as to the production date of the compressor unit. There should be a serial number on a tag on the engine under the manifold. I got another one that uses all 6 cylinders for compression and is driven by a 75 horse electric motor. I have an ad for Schramm"s from the mid "50"s. They made a lot of different versions of that machine. Sometimes I wonder if any two were alike. I think a lot of them went to the St. Lawerance Seaway project and the Navy used them on carrier decks.
