Anybody know Deutz tractors?

Back in the 80s when I helped sell John Deere irrigation engines Deutz stationary engines gave us fits in sales because they used less fuel but I never was around any of the tractors. A fellow near me has a D68 08 tractor for sale and it looks clean and well taken care of. He says it is an orchard model but looks like standard fenders to me. Anybody know about this model? Thanks, Paul

Still a bunch of the air cooled Deutz around here. Some from the 70's on up. I saw 1 with 11,000+ hours on it. Lots of them have 6-8 thousand hours. My tractor dealer ordered a muffler for one guy that has a late 70's model Deutz. The muffler was $900 and change. My dealer asked him since it was that price was he going to try and rig up something else. The guy said order it. He was replacing the original muffler and the tractor was still going strong. I think the mufflers have ceramic inside and last a long time.

I bought a agrofarm 100 (96hp) last fall. It has the German Deutz water cooled engine. Those are fuel sippers too although may not do as good as the air cooled.

The muffler has the exhaust necks for each cylinder on the back side. It is actually the exhaust manifold and muffler all in one.
That 68-08 is a very good lasting tractor. If you are not familiar with Duetz go drive it first. They are a little clumsy but last for ever.
