OT Baby Chicks

Weel, I thought our rooster was well, a "little light in the loafers", 'cause we never saw him doing what he was supposed to. Anyway, we were mistaken since the hen that's been nesting for awhile has two new baby chicks.
The question is, will the other hens and the rooster leave them alone, or should we seperate them? We've had chicks before, but I just though they came from the feed store.

Sort of depends on breed and amount of room available. Tightly confined White Leghorn layers aren"t known as best mothers, semi free range Rhode Island Reds and Cochins take care of chicks and others help a bit. Old breeds better rep than newer layers or fryers. RN

8X8 coop with a good size yard. The setter is a banty (sp?), Pop's a Cochin, and the babies are most likely Araconas or Banti's if that matters.
Total chicken count is 7, so's there's a lot of room.

That Banti (sp?) hen will lay her life down for them chicks. I have found over the years (as have the cats and dogs) that them little girls are fisty when it comes to their little ones. But as far as the others, they will look out for them for the most part. If you see one of them hit a baby on the head don"t worry too much (as long as it isn"t extensive). They are just straightening them out, puttin" them across their lap if ya will.

Ive had bantam hens kill other hens chicks.I would seperate them fast. They kill a chick with one peck.
