HELP! Might Have Created a Monster!

13 year old daughter goes to a lot of our stock, antique tractor pulls with me and I just happened to mention that we might need to get her one. Have a Super 55 that she might start with in 3700# BUT now she's on Craigslist looking at RED tractors! (Kinda the ones that usually beat me)

Help Dr. Phil - Any advice?

PS: Dr. Phil - Will this lead to longer trailer, more truck and more expense?

Go ahead & get her the red one, who knows, maybe she'll even let you pull it once in awhile LOL. I think it's great when the younger ones take interest in things we do. And to answer your question YES a longer trailer is probably in order so ya might as well start looking. Keith

Kruser, I think you're going to need to find some young feller that's an IH mechanic that knows his stuff and can work on your Ollies too so you can sit in the shade getting ready for a pull. I'm glad I had boys!! LOL

I would have thought you would have some extra GREEN paint laying around ...
just because it came from the factory a color , doesn't mean it can't be change .. LOL

Great to heard you are letting her get involve.. brings familys closer ..

Was a green Farmall with yellow wheels at a local pull a couple weeks back. Looked like a skunk in a henhouse! Clashed with everything, including itself! Won't kill you to let her drive red, won't kill her either.

Don't pull no color wars on me, I drive them all!

I say to let her go for it. My family has orange, blue, red, and green tractors. I was probably 6 when I developed an appreciation for tractors, and when I was around 12 I technically got ownership of my WD, and when I was about 17 I got really big into using it (since I could drive myself to the farm and not be on someone elses' drive time). And I'm in my mid-ish 20s now...

Ya know I got to thinking maybe you could sponcer a pull in your home town and just drive the tractors there. No trailering at all. I think she would look great on a red tractor. Seams I see a hint of red in her hair.

I have a Farmall H painted JD green with yellow wheels, and the decals on the sides say "Green With Envy". I am taking it on a tractor ride tomorrow.

Lotta them do.
Just another "little" older gal that pulls with us old guys!
Angie can hold her own on a Farmall H or M.

Hay Kruser, don't look back, do it! You will look back on these times with fond memories in the future.I missed some of these times with my kids and regret it.

You might have to wait a couple of years for her to be pulling though, here age is 16 and up to pull set due to insurance regulations.

Jim- I've got a nice straight "H" for sale- rebuilding the carb this weekend, and I could deliver it with a long trailer, which also happens to be for sale! Just say the word, I'll fix you right up!

Not a monster at all, a great opportunity for you! Probably one of the greatest opportunities you will get in this life!
The memorys of doing tractors with her will be some of your very best memories ever.
GO FOR IT!

Signed, An Empty Nester!

Common ground with your daughter at that age is very good. I don't think my twin girls liked me much between 12 and 18. I usually got the ole eye roll.

Kevin- can u send pictures of your H. Might be interested. Don't need trailer.

Get her a red one. That way you can both take turns experiencing what it feels like to be on a real tractor!!! Just kidding. The important part is the quality time spent.

Angie looks like she can contol alot of old guys with a sweet smile. I'm betting she has a larger cheering section also. I think it is neat when the little ladies kick some major butt taking on the good old boys with lots of advise, and know it all game plans.

She probably only has to ask for help adding weights, and a whole bunch of blundering bafoons will throw them for her without being asked.

Hey, enjoy the daughter before she thinks boys are any thing but good. It will not be long before she leaves the nest, and you wish you would have spent more time with her.

spend that great times together with her ., my daughter is almost 18 now., when she was younger she spent a lot of time with dad., now I need to make an appointment to see her.

I grew up on red and still partial to them. My 17 year old daughter keeps coming home from school telling me I should go green cause all the kids at school tease her. I told her if they're teasing you then they notice you!!! She looked puzzled when I said that. We have our annually show this weekend in Highland, IL at the Louis Latzer Homestead. He invented pet milk at this farm.

Nope, it was at the Albert City Threshermens show a couple of weeks ago. I love to sit back and watch people's reaction to it. Best entertainment I've had for a long time.

Get her a RED Oliver!
Red olivers were badged as Cockshutts from about 1965 to 1975

jim, i have a customer at the shop that has a minnie moline g1000 diesel for sale. its a wheatland bareback, no pto or 3 point. prolly pick it up pretty cheap, that would make a good puller for her!!!!!! i can get some pictures if ya want!!

You might want to be careful with this. There's a fellow not too far from me who pulled a Farmall 300 last year and did fairly well. This year his daughter (a little older than yours but not by much) beat him in every single class with her newly acquired 300.

So, a great idea, but can you live with being beaten by your daughter on a red tractor? I think it's great whenever other younger people become involved in this hobby as everyone is getting older and we need some young blood. More power to her. Sam

I just returned from the Kansas State Fair. In the 4H/FFA division, there was a tractor that was overhauled and restored by a high school-aged girl. She didn't get grand champion, but did a real good job and I'm sure she learned a lot with her project.
