OT continuous paper printer?

Does anyone of the computer knowledgeable posters know if an older Panasonic KX-P1124 printer requires a driver? I use this printer only to print my checks and it quit after I installed a new set of blank checks. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to pay some bills and my hand writing is terrible to say the least! Thanks,Jim

They do require drivers. Do a google search for your model number and the word "driver" and you will have to weed through the results to find a place to download the driver.

So it was working one day, ran out of paper which you replaced and now it's not working? That does not sound like a driver related issue.
What operating system are you using? (Windows xp, vista, 98 etc.)
What are the symptoms? Does it power on? Is there a light on where it says "On Line"? Or is it not printing properly etc?

Oh, and it's not too off topic, those printers are known as "tractor feed" printers. :)

Say Jim; I'm almost certain your bank will honor electronic checking such as my Bank of America Bill Pay. It is so much easier and simple than writing Checks, postage, mailing and then waiting to find out if the check got delivered. I have only written about 3 checks the last 3 years.Everything else is paid "on line".Check it out,you will be happy you did.

Hi Tx Jim: I thought KX-P1124 was real old untill I looked at one of mine... it's just as old or older. KX-P1123. The other poster said yes it needs a driver but I think it may work well with a "default" standard driver which is included with most Windows operating systems. My KX is run by an older computer with Windows 98 (thats 12 years old software) I use it for most of my small notes & odds & ends since I have tons of saved files for reference. Hard to stop using it just the way it is.. Anyway, try going to your "install printer software" and select printer and pick KX-P1124 or close to that. good luck. ag

I actually have one of those and I'd have to dig it out and take a look, but there is an out-of-paper switch in the paper path. Make sure your new batch of checks is activating that switch.

I think you hit the nail on the head as the ["red"out of paper] light is ON. What do I need to do to correct problem? Thanks,Jim

Correction: I took paper out and a buzzer comes on and red light flashes so this isn't the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion as my kin folks have already suggested the same thing. BUT I think I've already come a long way by using Quicken after keeping my farming records on Big Chief tablet, totaling my expenses/income with a calculator and writing checks/addressing envelopes by hand.

Country folk such as I can only stand so much modernization !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies and yes I did know my printer has been referred to as a TRACTOR drive/feed type. BTW I'm running Windows XP and Quicken 2001 Deluxe.

Hello Tx Jim,
Printers do need to have a driver installed in order to work. They also need to be SELECTED as the default printer.
Most likely though the out of paper feature in the printer is the problem. If you have paper in it and it is giving you the out of paper light, you need to check the sensor or the out of paper switch. With windows XP you can revert to an earlier date, and see if that will put the printer back.
Guido.
