local auctions here have gone down the toilet...

In my area of central ontario farm auctions used to be pretty fair and deals could be found and lost. Tomorrow is a very good auction with things I need but I already know how it's going to turn out. There are two brothers named Brindly who go to all these auctions and make sure they get the run of the place. One owns a scrap yard and the other a used tractor/auction business. They play games back and forth and even have their sons involved. Once they get get what they want they will try to sell it to the next highest bidder for 25% more. I know auctions are supposed to get the seller the most money but sometimes it just get annoying when the guy bidding treats it as a joke. Have any of you guys experienced anything like this?

If you want something bad enough, just be the highest bidder. If you have idiots, I'm sure they probably get stuck with their fair share as well. If they're working with the auctioneer is another story. Dave

I went up to one of Brinleys auctions many years ago, it was the poorest excuse for an auction I have ever seen. He pulled a hay wagon around with a tarp draped over because of the pouring rain. The high light of the auction was when every one went to one side of the wagon to see what was being auctioned, yeah, the wagon flipped over!!

Then the auctioneer is going to loose his reputation and be considered a joke to all, hopefully. Your reputation is supposed to be
in good shape if you own a business and if it for schitt then you will be finished.

The Brindly Brothers enjoy a teflon coating similar to Bill Clinton. They can do just about anything, smile and 90% of people still love them.

I've been to a few of their auctions and auctions where they are bidding, man what a joke. They just won't stop bidding, and will pay 2X to 3X the price of what something is worth. They also float their inventory around to other auctioneers they are in league with in order to try and sell it at a massive profit. Usually they wind up taking their stuff home, and it ends up at another auction.

Them buggers eh. Every auction I go to Brindley is there bidding something way up. No deals to be had with him around. Not only do they go to all the auctions they are the auctioneers at some of them. From what I've heard, he walks down the row and tells people if they want anything to yell. I think that's mostly at his own auctions though. I can't stand the guy cause he bids anything worth buying up too high and can have a big mouth. Used to live within 15 km of two of them.

Many years ago I went to a machinery auction looking for a post hole digger. There were 7 new diggers on the ground and 2 guys ran the bids way up beyond what the diggers were worth.I saw the top bidder leave without loading a digger.I bought the same digger 2 weeks later for 100 bucks less from a dealer.Auctions are a crap shoot. The junk always comes up first.
