its raining here in nj this morning so work got cancelled, so I had some time to post a question. I had a lot of green tomatoes so one of the things I did with them was make some pickled green tomatoes in a 4 gallon crock. I got the recipe from an old book, let them sit on the counter in the kitchen just like the book said. They are ready to eat now and they taste good! My family never made these, so I was just curious if any has any memorys of making pickled green tomatoes like the recipe I read in the book. Any memorys good or bad would be interesting if anyone has any. Thanks for your time, sorry its not tractor related., but I thought it might be interesting.

My grandmother made the best tomato pickles I ever ate. Wish I had her recipe.

Claussen pickles used to make them commercially, but I haven't seen any in years.

You can find them occasionally in roadside stands and mom & pop places. They generally make for some good eating.

I don't know but we used to wipe out some fried green tomatoes. That's the only thing I can remember Mom canning.
Wife never canned before but is going to try making apple butter this evening or tomorrow. If it works out, she'll be a canning fool and I'll hit you up for the recipe.

I miss my crockpot............ Next best thing to having a wife when I was single. Throw some stuff together in the morning and have a nice cooked meal when I got home from work. Had to use it with a transformer because it was 110 volt, wife (years later) put an adapter on the cord one day and plugged it in to 230 volts. I coulda choked her.......

Wasn't canned, it was bottled.... Guy I knew back in the day made green tomatoe wine. The stuff looked like water but it would sneek up on you and kick your butt.

Haven't done it that way but I have done pickled green tomatoes in the past. I have done dill, bread and butter and sweet plus done hot dill and hot sweet and all turned out well. Throw me an e-mail if you want the recipe for them. They are real good dilled with a jalapeno pepper or 2 in each jar

Nancy there is a couple of good recipes in the Ball Blue Book of persevering which is where I got the ones I used then I modified them to fit my tastes and have made some good hot ones
