Garden I don't think I saved it

Well they called for a hard freeze last night so I tried to save my garden. This is what it looked like this morning. What are the odds that I saved any of it or do I just have fresh frozen green beans and peppers and tomato's. It does sort of look neat but I think not likely it will keep growing

i've had pretty good luck with leaving sprinkler going all nite down to about 26*
let everything thaw out and see whats still green...you mite lose some to ice weight breaking stems.

Ya the sprinkler is what I tried last night. This morning it to was frozen in one place as in it was not going around like it should have been and had no idea how long it had been that way but at least it made for a couple odd looking pictures

as long as plants had a coat of ice before sprinkler stopped you should be ok...who woulda thunk ice insulates???

Well just think about all them igloos that have been made for many years by people where it is real real cold. Seems they stayed warm in them some how but that is still to cold for me LOL

It looks awful but you might be surprised at how much survived. The theory is that as water freeses; it loses heat and some is lost to the plant parts it freezes onto thereby slightly raising the temp of those parts. The ice coating then insulates the inside. When the ice melts it can absorb some of that heat back from the plant parts [thereby freezing some of those] but most comes from sunlight and air-temp. I have heard that 27 degrees is where there is not much hope and you were a degree below that. Sooo - good luck!

Freeze-Pruf spray on product is said to give a 2 to 9 degree temperature advantage to plants.

I have not used it nor know anything about it other than reading advertisements.

For serious gardeners willing to spend bucks you might wish to try Jack Frost Foam to insulate the plants until it warm up the following day.

Well my wife likes them but me I turn up my nose at them LOL. I have a few of them out in the garden right now. First batch of them I planted this spring I found out to late that they where greens only and my wife turns up her nose at them as much as I do. My chickens are loving the fact that the garden is gone because they get all the plants I pull out and the hot peppers seem to be helping me get more eggs

Friend has strawberries. He prevents frost damage just about every spring. The reason it will work is that wet ice will stay at 32 degrees. The trick is that once you start you have to keep the ice wet until it is melted back off. I afraid that Old is out of luck. It sounds like his sprinkler conked out too soon. As soon as the ice is not wet the internal temperature will fall.

Ya the sprinkler also froze and had water going out one place only. Oh well the garden was just about done other then the peppers and beans so no real big lose
