Looking to coat my garage floor with a Sherman Williams industrial epoxy floor coating.

Any thoughts? What to avoid?

Well, my father used it. And when he parked his vehicles on it with warm tires, when they left they took the epoxy with them. All directions were followed.

I used a concrete stain on mine, worked very well, however it does not stand up well to harsh chemicals, gasoline, thinners etc so I would not recomend it for a work shop garage.

We have tore up alot of that stuff with a diamond grinder, and put down a real expensive stuff.

The materials for a two and a half stall garage was around $3,500.00 for the materials alone. This stuff looks like glass forever.

It's not for everyone, if you don't go with the good stuff, why not just use a good paint, and touch it up every six months or so.

Rustolum makes a paint, then add chips. It comes in alot of different lables, but the sixty five dollar a gallon stuff, just doesn't stay on for long.

You will probably get what you pay for it. We never want to spend the money the first time, and often that is the only way a person can afford to do it with most incomes.

We did a expensive one about a year ago. It cost alot of money to do it, and looks great. However at that price his wife placed cardboard and rugs to the point you can not see----ANY--of the floor.

i used a 2 part epoxy from Lowe's that has held up very good for the past 8 years...i put down 3 coats and use shop for cutting, welding, mechanic work...even had my dozer in there a time or 2.
slab was about 2 months old and had never had any grease/oil on it...only complaint i had was it turned out so slick [over a broom finish] that i had to put a third coat on with cat litter mixed in.

My shop floor just was sealed when new. It is fifteen years old now. It has held up well. I don"t like the epoxy concrete paint/ sealer. The reson being that they will come off some time and they are a mess to do anything with then. I have seen several that to a grinding to get off.
