Today we left the cabin with our Chevy loaded with wood and a trailer behind with a small fish house and a four-wheeler, not over loaded at all. left it in 3rd because I wasn"t going to go over 50 or so to not damage fish house. About 5 miles down the road a message appeared that said engine hot, air conditioner shut off. ( it was +12F) The temp gauge read 160F. Pulled off on a crossing and opened the hood, did not appear hot, expansion tank was full of coolant and not under a lot of pressure. out of concern I shut it off and called the dealer service dept., they insisted it must be hot and let it cool. I tried starting it and it turned over but would not start until we waited about 10 min., so I took off but the message was still there, so I stopped, shut it off and disconnected the battery cable for about a minute(service man suggested this) then it started and we continued the 100 miles home with no further incident (or messages) Anybody ever have this happen? Thanks in advance, Russ

No! But I do have a 2008 that stayed in 4-Hi twice on me. Around a year or two apart from each other. Would not come out of 4-Hi. Measage read "Service 4-wheel drive". After truck sets for a while, everything is normal again. I was told on a GM web-site; that it is a normal computor glitch. After setting for a bit, the computor re-sets itself, and all is well. Disconnecting the battery probably also re-set the computor.

If you plug in the block heater this will bring up a code after you start it up becuase some senser senses a higher temp than air temp coming in.Then be careful when you start it up again as if it does start it will run at a pretty fast idle(3500+ rpm) I'm telling you this from experience. Get this, that funny button looking thing on top of the plug in is a temp sensor as it will not work if temp is over 10 degress. So I thought how stupid. I sodered that little senser so block heater works when ever it is plugged in. Thats when "my" problems like yours started. Was going to replace the cord that I shouldn't have sodered $120.00!!! NO WAY Left it the way it is. If code comes up again I have to just clear it. But as far as having a temperature senser on the cord makes no sense. You just can't leave it on too long. ):

Leave it in D for drive and push the trailer button. You were baffling the computer with an out of spec configuration.

Thats it! I recently cut the thermostat plug off the block heater cord so I could warm the engine up with electricity instead of $3 gas. This morning I had it plugged in for a couple of hours before I started it and left. By the way, on the 07 the tow-haul switch does nor lock it out of OD like on the older trucks, so I was told to use 3rd when pulling and driving slow, have done it for over 3 years.

There is NOTHING wrong with driving the truck in 3rd. It's actually recommended that you shift down to 3rd if the transmission is constantly shifting back and forth between 3rd and 4th.

I've towed with my 2003 Chevy for 1000's of miles with the transmission in 3rd, and it never threw an engine temperature code. Not once.

The tow/haul button on chevys doesn't give the engine more power or lock out overdrive. It changes the shift pattern of the transmission. That's all.

It will still bounce back and forth between 3rd and 4th if you don't quite have enough power to hold 4th gear.
