Need Help To identify A Tractor.

We have this tractor with no name on it.This tractor Has the letters AM stamped on Engine block and Transmission and on various other parts,it is orange in color and tricycle font end.Tractor has a Fairbanks Morse Magneto and carb is a Marvel ???Ebler(cannot Read first Three letters).Next to shifter is stamped TRACOR NO.C57968.This tractor is suck in the woods and I am wondering if it is worth the effort to pull out?How much is tractor worth and what Kind is it?Please help.

I don't know what it is, but it IS worth pulling out. Probably worth a minimum of $200 just for the scrap iron value, but please do NOT scrap it out until you know for sure what it is, and whether it can be serviceable again.

It sounds to me like you have an Allis Chalmers C from 1948. It is definitely worth saving if it is not too hard to get to. You can search the photo ad archive on this site to see what they've been advertised for. I had a customer who was going to buy my working but unrestored C for $850 but instead he traded me a Farmall H.

Where in the world are they worth that much? Last time I was at the crusher, let's just say there was more than one in the cast iron pile.

I'm in northern NY. The one I had ran well and had fairly straight metal and good brakes, almost new rear tires and a new 6v battery and muffler. I do see them advertised locally for $500, and they usually seem to go pretty fast at that price. I don't know what the value is like in other places, that's why I suggested looking at the photo ads to see what people are asking for them(not that they maybe get it). I had a running B with wheel weights that I only got $550 for, but the tires were not so good and it was rusty. They're not bad little tractors for pulling wagons and mowing and such in my opinion.

It does sound like an Allis Chalmers C. I have one I bought this past spring for $1,000. I think it's a great little tractor. Value of a tractor is what it's worth to you. Lots of parts pretty cheap on Ebay if you plan to get it running. Posting a picture would help on getting input. Hope this helps. Gerard

Amazing how things vary with location. I saw 3 later model JD Bs on auctions here a few years ago sell. The highest price was $950 for a square axle 52 with real good original paint. I talked to the husband of one of the wifes friends who lives in Md shortly after that and he claimed you couldn't buy one there in any condition for less than $1500. Don't know if it was true,or if he just wasn't looking in the right places.

Thanks to all. Thanks to Zach, your picture is exactly what I have. What Does AM stand For?The Tractor that we have is missing one front tire and rim is rrusted out, also rear rim and tire missing.Where can I find these parts? How much?

You can find many parts on this site, either new from the shop section or used in the classified and photo ads. Craigslist is also a possibility, and ebay. The rear rim can also be had through various tire dealers and shipped to you. I don't know if the front rims are still made. Prices are all over the map, I'd shop around a bit. I don't know what AM stands for, it's a casting code of some kind. Try asking on the Allis Chalmers forum and someone there will likely know.
