Well, fer dern!

Guess I learned that lesson the hard way. :>(

For what it's worth, and just in case you were wondering, a grille guard off an '08 Power Stroke won't fit an '11. :>(

Good news is that the grille will come outta that shaker in less than 45 seconds. :>)

Was scared to tell ya.

Some of these boys on here are just plain "vicious" when it comes to Power Strokes. :>)

Just another Ford, as I had just about ran the wheels off the other one.

Allan

well this being a 2011 Im assuming you have the new 6.7 powerstroke built by ford. How do you like it? Other than the urea and emissions crap is it pretty stout?

Seems odd that you would buy high priced, unserviceable, modern junk while running your farm/ranch with low priced, antique, repairable farm iron.

But then I suppose you find it's easier walking back to the barn rather than hitch-hiking across several states.

I got over the new vehicle dementia in 1980. My second-hand 12-Valve 1998 Dodge/Cummins is my last vehicle.

I am 66 years old. My grill snaps out too. No, that doesn't refer to my teeth.

Has anyone found a way to delete the new Urea trucks yet?I'm very pleased with my 6.7 dodge after deleteing the EGR and DPF stuff, but have heard it's going to be harder to delete the urea system on the new trucks.

gee 45 seconds, sounds like some other stuff will be missing in the malls in high deer traffic areas.

some was carrying Battery power sawzalls to get the catalytic converters awhile back.

Last week it was tailgates again.

Nice truck though.

I'm 66 also Pard,

And being so, I say that at our 'fully mature' age, we can do any derned thing we want.

I'm of the opinion that we've earned that right as we've got the scars, bumps, bruises and scabs to prove it.

So, if I wanna farm with horses and mules, by Gawd, I'll farm with horses and mules and could give a fig less what the neighbors seem to think. :>)

Allan

Had to find an outlet fer another guard tho and that kinda went against my "plan".

Dealer wanted my left arm up to the elbow for new grille guard installed. That's why I was trying to swap out this old one. :>(

Yep, like ya say, that front piece of grille could cost a bit, if Bambi decides to cross the road at the wrong derned time. :>)

Allan

They do have a complete delete for the urea and everything else on the 6.7 Powerstroke, but Im not sure about a urea delete on the Cummins. I'll look into that and see.

Yes Sir,

It's wayyy, wayyyyy strong. Deeper gear ratios in the lower gears and the extra horsepower really gives 'er a muscled-up kick.

Double overdrive on the top and it just 'idles' down the hiway. Far, far better mileage than the 6.4 was getting.

They made me promise that I wouldn't burn tractor fuel in it tho. :>)

Allan

18 just bangin' around.

Gotta go get that new grille guard early next week, some 60 miles distant, so we'll see how it does out on the open road.

Allan

I like the way you thing Allen, we've done without way too long! I just keep my AAA membership paid up and hope the cellphone works. :)BTW all mfgrs models have issues so let the dealers deal with it.

Congratulations! A wise move and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I just bought a new truck as well. Maybe old geezers like us will be able to keep this economy going.

Not at all... Just add water. There's a vid on youtube where Navistar i beleive paid a research company to do some independant (so called) testing of various rigs with Urea systems and at least a couple, including the Dodge 5500 (I think that's the model) would run on plain old water once the DEF tank was emptied of DEF. That sounds real simple to do as long as the water doesn't freeze...

Just out of curosity, do you know if they still have the ZF manual transmission available or have they gone completly to the auto? Web info seems to suggest they're all automatic? If so... I'm gonna have to start accumulating parts for a glider kit...

Rod

Allan, My, My, My,You Have been a Busy Boy! LOL, I do like that new 6.7. Was told by the Fleet manager at my local Ford Dealership that ford went back to what works on a clean sheet of paper! Basic 7.3 design, with improvements and modifications. They Rolled the Dice in hopes they could get a fuel efficient 7.3 Type engine!
So far down here in Texas the guys that have them Love them! Though not crazy about the Urea deal.
The trucks have preformed Darn well.
Is your a Crew-cab or a Supercab , 4x4. I would be willing to bet if you put either your 1066 or 966 on a Gooseneck trailer and head out, You will chicken before it gets to top end,LOL Keep us posted, Have fun!
Later,
John A.

My truck doesn't have Urea just DPF & EGR or did have,I just wondered.Interesting if they will run fine that way,but I was interested in if the system could be removed and reprogramed with a tuner to run code free.

Well I did some reading and H&S has full DEF,DPF,&EGR delete kit out.costs about $1,500 I guess.I have the H&S tunner on the Dodge and I'm pretty impressed with the company, very good customer service.

o manual X/misson avaliable in 150 ,250 or 350. Not sure about 450 and up. I'm not at all happy about this!

I couldn't find it with the 450 either... Even most single axle straight trucks now are coming with Allison's. It's one thing to have an automatic available for those that want one but it's a sad state of affairs when the rest of us are forced to put up with one.

Rod

Yep,

The manuals, (well actually, the clutches more than the transmission) just do not hold up as well as the automatics.

All three of the manufacturers have been fighting this problem for a long time. Since the late ninetys in fact.

I wonder if they just finally threw their collective hands in the air, gave up and put a box in there that could stand the higher torques of these newer engines.

Allan

I'd argue that the clutch problem is related more to the drivers than the clutches... from what I've observed anyhow. Still don't see why they couldn't go to a twin disc system if they need more friction tho...

Rod

Yep,

You probably hit that nail right square on the head. :>)

Between the clutch burn and those leaky actuators/slaves. Well, that coupled with the ever mounting warranty expenses too. :>)

When I worked for Ford, we had to order clutches, actuators and those dual mass flywheels by the trainloads.

Allan

Allan,That is the same bull that dealers and mfgs.have been spouting since the sixtys. The ones I know of towing heavy are having next to zero luck with autos.,mines 4 in one year, the local Chevie dealer does 2 to 4 Allisons a year.I have never lost a clutch yet running 2 to 250,000 mi. before trading, the Ford dealer thinks he has lost at least half dozen sales so far.

I'm not arguing with ya, we're just vistin' and I'm just trying to say what I know to be fact.

Go spend 6 weeks working HEAVY on a line sometime. You'll come away with a completely different view of things, of what is really failing and what isn't.

These new boxes aren't your father's automatic. 15 years ago, the automatics couldn't hold the torque.

Now, it's totally the other way around.

Allan

With you there Pard. I have a 12Valve in the garage with just 135k on the clock. I put it up on 1 Dec and get it out on 1 May. No salt for that old girl.
If you have "adjusted" that fuel plate? you need to do that. Doing that to mine about doubled the power and the mileage went UP! After opening it up just about 3/32 I can go up hills in 5th gear that I used to be down to third to climb.

Gordo

I pull pretty heavy and have put as much 250,000 miles on ford clutchs and never had to replace one. This Dodge has a funky fly wheel and it's going to need a new clutch, but south bend and valair make some good daul disc clutchs for 1250-1,600.I have had to put alot of money in this truck to get what I want and I'm going to have to keep it a long time to get my money out of it.

hey rod there are nox sensors in the exhaust and the computer look's at these to see if the def/urea is being injected. if water is put in it will see it and a message will appear on the instrument cluster. if you don't put def/urea in short order the truck will derate/lose power and will eventually quit running. also allen you will love this truck.

No disrespect Allan, but when I say Heavy I mean weight, not miles.I'am talking stalling the trans.out or close to it.As far as the 2011,I just left a man who traded his 2001 six speed in on a new F-350 that said he has run out of starting power twice and had to use the transfer low range to get the truck moving. The converters won't that kind of abuse and when they go so goes the tranny.

You may be correct... but again, I reiterate... this is a video on youtube, produced by Navistar employing an outside testing firm. They tested a Dodge 5500 with Cummins ISB and DEF injector, a Freightliner Columbia with a DD60 series and a Paccar (Kenworth I think) with a Cummins ISX. The Dodge will not start after I think 500 miles when the DEF tank is empty. It will run fine endlessly with a warning about no restart... but if you stall it, you screwed. The ISX I beleive went into an 80% derate when it ran out of DEF... and the Detroit.... well, it's driving yet. No derate, no shutdown, no nothing. In the case of the Dodge and the Freightliner, filling the DEF tank with plain cold tapwater shut off all the warning lights and restarted the Dodge... and no more warning lights. They put many thousands of miles on the freightshaker after adding water and it never derated either...
I have no idea what the Ford will do but I would think some electrical adjustments could fool the ECM easy enough.

no dought after market people are offering delete kits gets around the computer program, but just like running red diesel in your hiway truck better hope the right person dose"t find out. in my area they run portable scale checks a lot and they check for that when they have you. also better put it back to stock if you need warranty work or the dealer may void it.
