what a morning.....

Some of the beautiful white sh1t fell yesterday and last night. Shovelled anout 6 inches when I got home. Went out this morning at 0430 to do chores before going to work and there was another 4 inches. Shovelled it and made my loop to check horses. The place that I turn around every day has a big drain with a steel grid over it. Just turned there yesterday evening and all was fine. Went to turn this morning and backed into an uncovered hole (400+ pound grid nowhere to be found).
Call the wife and ask her to get the next door neighbor to come with his tractor. Said 3 times to get the neighbor. She was smarter than me and came with her car cause "it's got AWD". Road has about 2ft of snow layered on over the last few days. We hook her car up and pull mine about a foot when she broke through the crust. Now we have 2 vehicles stuck, it's blowing snow and we are a mile from anywhere. Walk back, get the neighbor with his big AWD tractor and get both vehicles out and we both get to work a couple hours late. I get to work and all except emergency/mission essential personell are released and I'm the only one on the whole floor that is essential. Guess I'll get up in the morning and get the chains on my tractor.

Done now.

(quoted from post at 04:20:52 12/21/10) sorry you had such a bad morning. I hope you used people skills, and did not yell at your wife!

Naaa She was a trooper. Hard headed as any other German Woman but stood up good. I just let her yap and never said anything. I appreciated her trying to help. After the mile long, bumpy ride in the front loader bucket, she'll prolly think twice in the future.

All good now and things are thawing. Plenty of folks had bad mornings that overshadow our interesting one. Several deaths in the area this morning. Usually the ones that are trying to do the right thing while others still think they can drive 150mph on the autobahn...

She does for a few minutes but there are enough entrance/exits on the stretch to keep folks sensible. Up to two years ago, I was driving 120 miles a day on it.

My maternal family line is German. Came to USA in eighteenth century. Probably why grandparents survived the Great Depression.

Question: What do you think happened to the grid? Another question: My Paternal Family, the Hermanns which changed to Harman to Harmon came from Effrigen,Schwarzwaldkreis,Wurttemburg Germany in 1733.Does this area still exist and are you living near there, thanks for an answer.JH

Prolly somewhere in the scrap pile... Town you are talking about is 150 miles south and a little west of me.

Looks like your fault, she drove out there but y'all could have drove back. Might have been a much worst decision if you were 5 Miles a way.

It look as if England and all of Western Europe is having fun with the weather. West of the Rockies is also having fun. Here in the mid-West/Southwest MO we have had about 2 inches of snow fullerys. Maybe more Christmas Eve.
