Good thing they are moving out now cause they would starve to death in the next couple of weeks. Back in the 1980's I caught a ride to Darwin on one of those (in the cab, not the bull rack). Most had 903 Cummings for power, the Aussie drivers loved that engine.

I never got to the Outback.

I tell people I live in the Outback here in Canada, so I visited Sydney to Melbourne and really enjoyed the ride through the Snowy's.

I was told if I ever went to the Outback, if I see a dust storm coming, it is probably a lorie and pull off the road as far as possible and stop, because there may be more that one.

Back in the 70,s I hauled tractor cabs out east from the Hiniker Co. in Mn. Then back hauled steel from Chicago. One summer I drove an IH with a 903. What a pleasure instead of the Astro with the 350 Detroit I usually drove. Easy to see why they love driving them.

Great pictures, always wondered how they loaded cattle trailers pulled in tandem, looks like they load in the side so they don't have to unhook. Looks a bit dry out there, maybe its always that way. Thanks for the pictures.

I never meant to say anything bad about the 903, the only place I ever worked with one is on a boat. My dad had a semi with a 318 Detroit I use to run, I think that is the reason I can't hear now, and my right foot has a permanant cramp from stomping the fuel petel to the floor. My uncle had a Hiniker cab on a 1070, you may have hauled it.

How else would a person get that long rig to change directions other than a large loop. BTW the 2nd and 4th pictures are of the same loop just different angles.
