What do you think about this old 1938 John Deere B? (Pict's)

I know of a 1938 John Deere B that is for sale and the gentleman is asking $400. That do you think?

It is missing the distibuter and radiator cap and the threading on the carb is broken. The tractor is stuck. It has been sitting for a number of years.
Missing the seat.
Its is a flatback tractor.

I would appreciate your feedback on this tractor.

I got the back main plug out and drained all of the oil that was in the transmission out. There was about a gallon of water in it and the oil was very black. When I left the oil in the cold almost everything was frozen so there was a good amount of water in that rear end. Just tonight my brother and I went out and put the new oil in the tractor and now we are ready for the snow. I will probably have to use the tractor to shovel the driveway tomorrow as we have about 2 inches of snow right now and are expecting snow all night. I am really looking forward to using that tractor!

I'd buy it. Looks pretty complete. You could part it for a lot more than that, but it's not that hard to restore if you put some workinto it.

On a positive note.It's not green anymore :shock:

If you think you can handle it, go for it. I'd offer quite a bit less unless you have the idea his kids would go hungry because of it. Don't look like anyone has been hounding him to buy it for the 400. Offer 200 and take it home for 300.

if you have time and money grab it, if he'll go for 300/ 350. from what ive seen of the parts here on this site the hood and rims are worth that or more, then you either have a winter [ or 2 or 3] project or parts for another tractor
