i have a customer that brought me a 2020 gas tractor with a blown engine and a more modern engine. a diesel out of a 2355 tractor. i know the engine will bolt in but is it possible 2 make a 2020 diesel front cover fit the newer engine.to allow for power steering pump to be mounted and is there a proper front crank pulley that will direct interchange to allow the belt and hydraulic pump drive to work off the front of the crank. it appears the crank nose is longer in the newer engine.. any help would be appreciated. thanks

You are going to find many little things that will take up a lot of time to get to work.

1)The 2355 engine should have a CAV injection pump so the factory 2020 diesel linkage works in the wrong direction. Plus you have Gas linkage that is on the wrong side to start with.

2) The timing cover WILL NOT interchange. It sounds like you have a early 2020. If that is true the steering system is open center. As it is separate from the lift hydraulics. I have seen people mount a power steering pump that is belt driven (car or pickup) and they will work.

3) The front dampener pulley will have to stay with the 2355. If you change it you will throw the engine out of balance. If you get the complete hydraulic pump drive off of a 2.4 cu inch pump the shaft should fit right on your hydraulic pump. You will need the complete drive as it uses a different cushioning system than the factory 2020. The potential problem is that I think the front casting on the 2355 is longer with the hydraulic pump mounted further forward then the 2020 hydraulic pump.

These are the main problems I see right off the top of my head. I would not try to do it myself. You are going to have a lot of labor in it and still have a "rigged up" tractor. I have switched gas to diesel engines. I always stayed in the same models/family of tractors. I would just go and get a used 2020 diesel engine and switch it. The 2355 engine is more valuable than the 2020 would be. The customer would be better off in the long run with a 2020 switch. The 2020 diesel was a very good engine. I really think that you will have a small fortune putting that 2355 engine in. Plus will this customer nit pick all of the rigging you are going to have to do???? There is no way that it is going to look factory.
