I just saw that WWII Easy Company commander Richard Winters passed away on January 2nd. It was kept very quiet, as he wished, so the family could have a private funeral. He was 92.

Saw that too,
A friend and well known member here sent me an e-mail today. 9 Marines killed in 4 days. "Darkhorse" Battalion 5th Marine Div. serving in Afganistan. Ranged in age from 21 to 29yrs. Young or old our soldiers are the reason we have what we have. they are due a l-o-n-g moment of silence on this day.

I saw it in the local online newspaper. We also had a local Vietnam Vet pass last week, long time farmer in our area.
I offered my thanks for their service this evening while admiring the stars out in the calm 12 degree evening.

No disrespect intended here but did you mean 5th Marine Regiment? There is not a 5th MarDiv anymore. I'm not sure where the 5th Marines are at though.
Semper Fi,
Rob

Each and every one that was in the service of this great nation is a hero in my opinion, be they men or women. Be it wartime or in peace. Be it stateside or abroad, on the ocean or the desert, in the office or in the dirt. WWI was my Grandfathers war. The war to end all wars. WWII, and Korea were my dad's wars. Vietnam was my war where I lost many friends, and the middle east is our sons and daughters. Just like during and after all the preceding wars and battles, I pray that this is the last. I know it won't be but I still pray it will. May we honor all that give of their lives and give their lives for our freedoms. Semper Fi LarryT
