Heard today from a guy that ammo brass can no longer be sold. Thinking this is probably false but. The guy said it has to do with the shooting in AZ and another way to keep guns out of the hands of the people that have them legal

I'd bet on false...Prolly greasin the skids for a "why don't I just take what you have off your hands?"

Nuther fine example of redneck paranoia......

I have also heard that ammo now only has a 90 day shelf life.in 3 months the powdeer degrades.....the gun haters are really loveing this latest event.

Your right as rain Dave. Just another B.S Flem -flam. waste of time to believe such nonsense. Some one has to dream up such trash to get conversation started . Like the song says. "DON'T WORRY -BE HAPPY". LOU.

He must have just sampled his latest batch. Shooting one day and three days later new law i dont think. The cold weather has put the frost in the wrong place.

For a while you couldn't get surplus military brass as there was a DoD order to demill used brass. Since that order was rescinded, the huge conglomerate ATK was buying spent brass from base commanders and demilling it. This benefited the base commanders who used the proceeds for their personal slush funds. I think the latter practice has been halted but I'm not sure.

Your buddy's logic is a little messed up, since 1) there's no evidence that reloaded ammo was used in the Tucson shooting, and 2) it assumes that Congress can act quickly, which is rarely true and not possible this week when the House has suspended its activities.

Lets think here...

Does the Government ever move fast enough to enach a law in 48 Hours????

What is true, external_link's administration banned the selling of the Military's spent brass to the private sector. It has to be melted down and sold as scrap. This is one of the reason for the rise in ammo costs.

I ordered 2000 rounds of .223 and 7.62 X 39 yesterday from Sportsmans Guide and I got notice that it was shipped this morning. Now, to be technical, I ordered new, loaded ammo with steel-casings. So, no empty brass - in fact, no brass at all.

Even the big chief external_link doesn't have the power to stop all sales, instantly on a whim -unless it was war-time and a declared National emergency. If he DID have the power, all conservative radio shows would be shut-down.

Jeff

That has been rescinded. The military is once again selling brass from its ranges.

Thanks old! We haven't had any HOT rumors for quite awhile, Thought I was on wrong board for sure. They keep everyone paying attention even if they are false ones.

ne word of warning, that case has an acrylic like coating on it. Used on something like an AK or SKS it is not a problem, but if you use the .223 in a tight fitting bolt action it can build up in chamber due to heat and cause cartridges to stick.
