you guys are always helpful. looking for some alum about the thickness of a beer can. perferably in rolls about 3-4ft wide. i can't seem to find a supplier that sells anything like that. years ago i use to deliver alum to coors to make there cans. I'd even look at steel if it were real thin and came on a roll. I could ramble on about where i've used it but we'll save the stories till another day.
thanks in advance

Have you looked at what is called flashing?? Lumber yards sell the stuff in my area. It is almost paper thin and can be from about a foot wide and up to I do not know. I have part of a roll of it here that is 2 foot wide and I pretty sure they sell 3 foot plus

In industrial pipe covering they use something like that to cover the insulation, also on ductwork. the type I have seen had a thin brown paper glued to the back side.

Our local newspaper used to not so long ago sell off old sheets of thin alum. they used in printing process.

Try a roofing or siding supply house. Around here they commonly sell rolls of aluminum coil stock 24" x 50' about .018" thick. If thats not wide enough they should sell 3" x 8" sheets also

I should have remember that since I worked in the news paper business many many years ago as a press mans helper and got those for free all the time

Look for solar application supply houses. SOME solar how-to books give a list of suppliers for exactly what you are looking for.

I wouldn't mind having a roll myself, but flashing is the best I can come up with locally and it is really far too thick to work properly for a solar heat collector.

Called an aircraft aluminum skin supplier to see if they ever had any reject material and they wouldn't sell to individuals whether they had any or not.

Please post back if you find a good supplier.

the product from the old newspapers is exactly the product i'm looking for but the new type of printing has made that product obsolete. but someone someplace has to use it.

I know what you are talking about because we make it where I worked. It is called can stock. We made it in 27,000 lbs rolls for the can companies. If you have a can maker nearby you might be able to get a drop from them that would be 64" or 72" wide.

since 1974 ,used thousands of 24" 50 ft' paited .019 coil stock , in home improvement siding and trim work ,.. sell all the time to folx nearby ,,

Used aluminum offset printing plates will work, will have image on one side, i was an offset printing press operator for 25 years & used to get used plates all the time, all the flashing on my house has them, they were different sizes, for whatever press they came off of. had a budy built a shed & sided it with them. if the sun was shining it would blind you going past his house. i've used them to patch floorboards in rusted out trucks too.
