moving snow tomorrow

been reading people's posts about how to move snow... rear blade vs. front blade vs. loader vs. blower.
i am starting to think i am the only one who uses a real blade and drives fwd. pulling the snow (offset the blade so it runs off to the side)
all it takes me is 2 laps around the driveway (1 left, 1 right) and a couple spins through the barnyard and i'm in good shape...
blower is good when i run out of room or need to move stuff further but backblade going forward is easiest for me...anyone else?

Well, we are expecting 24" of snow by morning, and I am not sure what I will do with all of it! Wind is gusting up to 50 mph and expected to gust up to 40 mph all day tomorrow. Front snowplow on the Chevy K2500 and rear blade on the Ford 640, guess I will just do the best I can to clear a path to get out of the yard or driveway, whichever is easiest.

8 foot rear blade on a heavy 4wd tractor works good for me. Especially with a piece of 2" schedule 40 welded on so I don"t pick up gravel. (Idea "Old" gave me 4-5 years ago)

Snow gets too deep... JD350 dozer.

24" with 50 MPH winds is nasty to say the least. We had a blizzard like that in '75 and it shut the county down for pretty much a week. The snow was hard as cement. We lucked out here in NW Iowa and only had 4". Now the 25 MPH wind is shifting it around. Temp is around zero. Good luck getting through the storm. Jim

Jim,

Everyone around here always talks about the bad winters in the 70's, I wasn't born til 1980 so I missed that. Now I get to see firsthand what a real snowstorm is like. We had one back in Dec '07 (if I remember the date correctly) that left us about 16" with some wind and drifting, and I thought that was bad! Not near like this one, so things are pretty much on hold for a few days.

Always lookin' for an excuse for some seat time on the Ford, probably won't be much fun with this much snow though.

Here's mine, much rather drive forward pushing the snow instead of dragging it or pushing in reverse as my dad used to do with this plow mounted on the back of our 450D, where I learned to drive the tractor doing figure 8s around snow piles out in the field, that's how he taught me how to use left and right brakes.
Also MUCH better with a full cab instead of no cab!

Big 86 where are you?? How much snow is forecasted and what low temp. I am in Ms. no snow , a little rain temp 36, low of 26 tonight.

I get mine done with one pass but then I still have to drive back home so most of the time I do 2. 8.5 foot wide V Plow that will move up to 2 foot of snow before it goes over the top of it. It is mounted on the loader of my Ford 841. I run it in 3rd gear only thing bad about it is not having a heated cab LOL
