OT-Wood Stove

Anybody use a box wood stove for your shop? About to buy smallest one I can find for approx. 3oo sf shop. Are their any made in USA? What about US Stove Co. in South Pittsburg Tenn.? Thanks guys!

Hey David,

TSC sells US Stove Company wood stoves. My buddy is the manager at one of the local TSCs. He says they sell A LOT of these units with little or no complaints from the customer.

David - I'm not sure what you are calling a "box wood stove".

The "box wood stoves" that I'm familiar with are about 18" wide, 30" long, and about 24" high. Some of them had a swing-away top along with a swinging front door. Most of them had removable insets in the top. No grates. Four legs and a little shelf under the front door. Sometimes the shelf would slide to remove the ashes. Cute as a button.

The one that I had would keep you from freezing to death in an emergency, if you had plenty of wood and stayed real close to it. I spent more time tending the stove than working in the shop.

Unless you're talking about a different type of stove, I'd keep looking for anything better. A barrel stove has them beat by a long shot.

Good luck,
Paul

i had wood barrel stove in my first shopand like has been said you spend more time cutting wood and tending it than anything else in shop. I wood never go back. Radiant heater is way to go in my eyes. i haave yet to see where the wood heat is cheaper

If he buys a half way decent stove not a barrel or little one, something that will get 6-8 hrs burn time that will take care of the care part. And I guess it depends on where you live, what you own, and how much money you have to say woods not cheaper.
I have 56 acres and wood is cheap and easy to get around here that it's a waste of time and energy to get it off my own property.
They'll load a trailer load of slabs for 10-15 bucks and now what I've started getting was the mills cull logs for ten dollars a trailer load.

Lopi makes a small one made in the USA.

I would make my own before I bought a Made in China one.
