O/T Kinda Sad...............

January 31 was officially the last day of existence for an insurance company that had occupied 13 of the last 16 years of my life.

The sad part is, if El Presidente had stayed home, kept his nose to the grindstone, and listened to the advice and concerns of us underlings instead of jetting around the country checking out golf courses, the company might still be going strong. When I started with the company, seven of us were the entire company. I saw it grow to 240 employees and there were four remaining when I left for good. By the time I left, no one else, president included, had more time with the company than I.

I won't mention any names, but the president was once starting quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhusker football team.

I stopped in yesterday. My key still opened the door, but inside was nothing but bare walls, including my old office. There was, however, a carton of microwave popcorn I'd left in one of the cupboards in the kitchen.

But, no point in dwelling on the past. At least I'm still employed elsewhere.

Too bad you company had not squandered billions of $$$ and cheated their customers. Then the gubbermint would have offered you all of our tax money you could waste to stay open.....

A lot of times former athletes are too busy trying to be jocks rather than applying themselfs to their jobs. They think their (former) celebrity status is all they need to be successful. It doesn't always work that way. Dave

On the other side I have worked for Company's with far less than 240 employees, and we did much better when the top dog was not around, but out on the golf course. He must have been pushing 75, maybe he wanted out?

Sounds like a milk hauler we had once. When another guy and I both switched haulers at the same time,Milton told the guy flat out that if he'd have kept his @ss in that truck and drove it himself instead of going fishing all the time and having God knows who driving for him,he'd still have a milk route.

A couple of shops I used to work for were sold out after the owner's died. The kids just wanted money. The employee's basically were roadkill. Most family owned businesess suck if your not family. There are exceptions.

I know of a local famous sport boat manufacture who lived way beyond his means and when the economy turned he lost his business. The company is still running, he's just not in the drivers seat anymore.
