Yanmar 2 Cyl Diesel

Friend has a 2 cyl Yanmar that was really smoking and would'nt rev over 1000 and belched black smoke. He installed a new injection pump, and now it still smokes, won't rev up and seems to be laboring. All functions work, has no air restrictions. I listened to it and exhaust sounds funny like a turbo whistling. They said they set the valves but I question the pump timming. Is there a procedure to shim the pump?
Thanks, Don from Canada

not sure about timing, but most of the time, clogged filters restricts fuel to pump, also if injectors are plugged from junk forced pasted filters, did you remove/check air filter, run without air filter for a minute to see what happens. [how old is fuel, today fuel builds up bacteria sitting to long, doesn't help injectors]. just my thoughts, owning diesel truck.

sounds like a clogged air filter, but you say no restricions,

also you might want to drain old fuel and put in new, h2o builds up in cold weather sitting around, if you haven't try already. this and bacteria. continued thoughts from previous thread. good luck.

with 2 pumps doing the same thing, I think your problem is elsewhere--if muffler sounds funny, take it off and try--how does it start? this engine doesn't have much room for compression loss, but hard starting is where that mostly shows up--Try cracking injector lines to see if firing? or have injectors pop-chked? doesn't take much of a problem on 2 cyl. to limit rpm good luck-paul
