Detroit Diesel 453N problem

Im looking at a loader with a Detroit 453N, the owner told me he purchased it not running and was told it was running and then just quit and wouldnt start back up, and he was told maybe it got a stuck injector? and two check the rack and make sure it moves free. any suggestions?

Usually a stuck injector involves a runaway.Check the basics, is there 60psi of fuel from the primary pump?
Are the valves opening and closing?

first check to see if you have fuel going through the head and returning to tank. secondly check to make sure the emergency shut down on the blower has not been tripped. Thirdly, check all fuel suction lines are not sucking air.

Make sure the blower (supercharger) is turning. No air, no run! One common cause of "won"t start" on these is; stripped splines on the blower driveshaft.

As mowr pointed out a common problem with Detroit Diesels is the blower shaft either stripped or broken. Check it first (see if blower is turning) as it also drives the fuel pump. The emergency shutdown is simply a flap that covers the blower intake, if it's not tripped pull the intake off blower and see what happens when you turn the engine. Good Luck

Most likely it just tripped the blower flap.

Could be the pin connecting the rack with the governor has dribbled out?.i had that happen once.

JD speced a low budget engine from DD for their entry level diesel utility tractor.
No E-Stop in the air intake, no oil cooler, no piston spray cooling rods and no tach. Even though there is a place on the timing gear cover to bolt a tach drive onto.

I have to go look at the loader he is selling it, I dont know if the owner will let me work on it but im going to take tools with me. I would hate to buy it and it has major problems
