1954 Jubilee Hyd. Lift question

Hello there, I am a recent new owner of a 54 Jubilee and I must say I am enjoying learning about it. I connected the lift to some three point implements and it will lift them quite quickly and hold them there, but it will lower them as soon as I kill the motor. I was thinking it might be a ring on a piston letting it bleed down. It will drop within 5 seconds or so to the full down position. I noticed the lift arms will pulse up every few seconds if they are in the full up position.

What needs to be done to keep the lift from bleeding down so quick. I assumed a rebuilt kit for the piston is what I needed but when I look them up I get pump rebuild kits. I have read to get rid of the "vein" pump if you have it. I am not sure how to know if mine is a vein pump or not. The pump is mounted on the same side of the motor as the distributor and is about the size of a thermos. I feel somewhat like an idiot for not knowing this but if I put a piston style pump on there would it all be under the seat? Is it a conversion of sorts or is it a matter of removing one and bolting another on? Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

Be well

Scott

you're rite on the first guess...rings shot on lift piston...to verify, remove the large plug on top corner of the differential housing and shine a flashlite inside...you'll be able to see connecting rod and cylinder...crank engine up and raise 3 point even without a implement...you'll be able to see hyd fluid spraying down cyl bore.

What parts would you order to fix it? Do you replace just the o ring or all of it including the piston? In the store I see the back up ring and o ring as well as the piston.

Is it something you would replace all of it while you are there or ?

Thanks for your reply. It means a lot to me.

First off there is no such thing as a 1954 Jubilee if a 54 it is an NAA, almost the same thing but different as for the hood emblem and year made. Jubilee was made in 1953 ONLY as the 50th year tractor.
That said if the piston looks good and the cylinder is not scored or the piston marked up all you should need to get is the O=ring and back up washer. The new rubber back up washer is better then the leather ones by the way

if you do use the leather back up,make sure you soak it in hyd fluid overnite before installing.
