A jack stand sounds like a better idea than the rope. Think I'll try just one to hold the 2x4 up. On my adapter (which may not be the best), I think I still need to keep the slotted 2x4 to maintain the proper spacing between the bars so they'll fit into the Fast Hitch sockets properly. Thanks for the idea.
