Behlen Installation instructions

I have a 49 M that has a Behlen power steering unit. I bought a reservoir and installed it as there wasn't one when I purchased it. There is a pressure relief valve on the top of the main steering unit that spurts out oil when it develops too much pressure or heat. I must still be doing something wrong. Is there anyone with installation instructions telling you what type of hydrolic fluid to use, how much do you put in the reservoir, and any other little tidbits that I should know about? Thanks for any information.
