The steering gear on the Model A was made in two basic types. The first, between introduction to early 1929, was the seven-tooth irreversable worm-and-sector. The second, between early 1929 to end of production, was a two-tooth worm-and-sector. Even though the second type was introduced in early '29, many '29 cars have the first type because Henry liked to use up in-stock parts before changing to a new part. My '29 Model A has the seven-tooth and my '30 has the two-tooth. The two-tooth is adjustable but the seven-tooth is not. If loose steering with the seven-tooth is due to the steering gear, and it probably is, the only fix is replacement or a complete rebuild of the steering gear.
