BOY! Talk about a Wake-Up Call Seeing Your Name in Big Letters Like THAT! Now I know how Guy Fay FEELS! I started at FARMALL in Oct. '76 right after the '86 Series started production. We were building about 2 Gas 686's a day out of about 14 686's. Hydro 86's were built at about 2 to 4 per day. I don't ever remember seeing a Hydro 86 gas. I'd have to check a manual, but I think it was the C-263 engine. I was layed-off in late '77 till 1-3-79 so I don't know for sure when Gas production stopped, but We didn't build them when I came back in '79. So all Gas 686's would be early models, '76 & '77 and maybe '78 models. Don't know about the "Star" on the serial Number plates on the 686 and 786, but Both tractors had German diesels. Serial Number plates were stamped down by the shipping Dept. I knew everyone there but Didn't know that much about how They did their jobs. I'll check My manuals I have. Maybe I can answer Your Questions better.
