I found some holes here and there (not these particular ones though) that seem to go through when they should not. I think that happened sometimes. I know I was surprised recently to find that the holes on the top transmission plate of my C for mounting the seat and tool box go all the way through. Looking at the parts book, found those are supposed to be stud bolts, but on mine someone had replaced the studs with regular bolts. Also, on you M, someone may have put in too long a bolt and broken through to the inside by forcing it.
